Director Neill Blomkamp has made a name for himself as a maker of science-fiction films like the 2009 movie District 9, Elysium, and Chappie. As a shift from his scientific realm, he switched gears to action mode, turning to the popular video game adaptation, Gran Turismo, starring David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Darren Barnet, and many more.

Hollywood’s car adventure movies have grabbed fanatic followers all over the world. From the pulse-pounding rivalry of Ford vs. Ferrari, Scott Waugh’s Need for Speed, Gone in 60 Seconds to the mixed action on the track and no other movie can go even as intense as The Fast and Furious saga.   Adding to the lineage of the genre, Gran Turismo promises that car adventures will continue to capture an exhilarating mix of action and excitement.

The movie Gran Turismo is based on a popular video game created by Kazunori Yamauchi, known for its realistic racing simulation, developed and released by Polyphony Digital on the PlayStation in 1997. The success of Sony’s drive-action video game Gran Turismo is one factor in kick-starting a franchise. In Hollywood, when studios want to make a franchise, it’s obvious they add end credits to the movie, hinting at the possibilities of a follow-up. So fans are wondering whether Gran Turismo would countenance anticipation for a sequel.

As per recent reports, Gran Turismo won’t have a post-credits scene. It won’t be hinting at follow-ups, and it’s unknown whether the movie will elaborate into a franchise. So those anxious fans can head to the exits as soon as the movie ends. Since the video game was created by Japanese video game designer Kazunori Yamauchi, the movie credits would show footage of him and the team creating Gran Turismo.

Gran Turismo: real-life story inspires iconic video game

Gran Turismo is based on the true story of a young car enthusiast, Jann Mardenboroug, who started as a normal gamer and transformed into a professional racer. He gained prominence through the GT Academy program conducted in collaboration with Sony and Nissan to find skilled gamers who could become professional racing drivers.  While the story of Gran Turismo is based on real-life inspiration, it is also based on the very popular video game of the same name.

With a line-up of well-known actors, the film features Archie Madekwe as Jann Mardenboroug, who starred in the See series, and alongside in Florence Pugh’s Midsommar. The Stranger Things actor David Harbour will play the role of Jack Salter. The movie will hit the big screen in August 2023.
