Ted Lasso was first aired in 2020 and became one of the most iconic shows on the platform. The first two seasons were loved by critics, and they earned back-to-back Emmy Awards for comedy series, lead actor, and supporting actor.

The third season received a bit of a mixed reception from the audience. However, it was still popular, although some critics and fans felt it couldn’t live up to the expectations from earlier seasons. The 3rd season has a critic rating of 81% and an audience rating of 77% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the possibility of a fourth season remained open.

Now, it seems like those possibilities might become reality soon. According to Deadline, Warner Bros. Television has secured three cast members- Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift. This is already a hint that the studio is probably serious about Season 4.

But it might not be as straightforward as it may look. According to Collider, Ted Lasso actor Jason Sudeikis himself is not sure about returning. The show was originally thought of as a 3-season show, and Sudeikis probably won’t want it to extend beyond that.

Moreover, there are scheduling challenges for other actors too. Many previous cast members have been working on new projects since the end of last season. Amid all these, it is yet to be seen how the studio manages to bring them all back together, probably one last time.

Fans Upset Over How The Bear Overshadowed Ted Lasso

Ted Lasso fans were quite upset at the 2024 Emmy Awards when The Bear took away all the awards in the comedy category. The Bear won many awards, including best comedy series and other acting awards. It was more surprising because these awards were for a season that aired in June 2022, which was a year before the event.

The controversy sparked more debates over whether The Bear should even be classified as a comedy. The show had a tense atmosphere and serious themes, which naturally gave people a scope to question its category.

Many Ted Lasso fans felt cheated, as they thought their favorite show was deserving of the awards but got snubbed due to a technical loophole. Ted Lasso was a traditional comedy, and it lost to a show in the comedy category, which is not a comedy. As Ted Lasso Season 4 hype begins, some fans recall this mishap and express their frustration on social media.

But the reason for its classification was due to its runtime. The Emmys were classifying shows with 30-minute episodes as comedies until 2021. The Bear fit that criteria even though it was technically a drama if it was solely judged on its content.

Some even believe that The Bear creators strategically chose the comedy category to avoid competing with dramas like Succession as it was a strong contender already. Whether it is true or not is a separate discussion, but the snub has definitely left a mark on Ted Lasso fans which is not going anytime soon.
