While there have been movies about the Incredible Hulk in the past when Edward Norton played the angry superhero, we don’t have an MCU canon movie or show dedicated to him. Mark Ruffalo has picked up the mantle of Hulk in the MCU movies including The Avengers. Owing to his amazing comic timing and a knack for getting angry at the right time, fans have fallen in love with Ruffalo’s Hulk. In line with this, they have envisioned the perfect Hulk movie. Here are the details.

Who Will Direct The Marvel Hulk Movie?

Even though Universal owns the rights to the Hulk character, fans are dreaming about a movie that solely focuses on the beloved green beast. Mark Ruffalo seems up for the project and even he wishes to star in his very own movie. The next question that arises is that of direction. Who has a unique thought to give Hulk a refined voice outside of the main Avengers?

A Reddit thread posed this question to the Marvel fandom. Various quirky directors were suggested including Jordon Peele, Alex Garland and even Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi. However, one favourite choice got upvoted by most users. The Shape of Water and Pinnochio director Guillermo del Toro seems to be fans’ top choice to direct an R-rated Hulk movie to smash the box office. Comments by users on Reddit read,

“The guy literally said, that his favorite corner of the Marvel universe is the monsters. Hulk is his favorite.”

“Have you seen Del Toro’s Hellboy? I can see that mapped onto Hulk and not just being a “Director’s movie”.”

Since del Toro is an iconic director who believes in infusing movies with his exceptional vision and direction, it would be great to see him make the first Hulk movie. If it converts into a franchise, other directors can take the story ahead. But laying a strong foundation is necessary for any superhero’s solo movie. Given that Hulk is already a veteran Avenger, it would be exciting to have del Toro add his own magic to the movie.

Why Guillermo del Toro?

The Mexican-American writer and director appears to be a fan favorite director for Hulk. His admirable filmography, three Oscar awards and BAFTA awards are enough to convince anyone of del Toro’s work. His specialty lies in adapting fairy tales and horror stories for the big screen. On top of that, he has a knack for bringing visual poetry into his scenes that further enhance the movie’s appeal. Moreover, he allegedly has a fascination with monsters, their powers, and a hidden human side that distinguishes them from animals or humans. He also directed Blade II and both Hellboy movies, proving his experience and expertise in dealing with the superhero genre.

Hulk already has a rich backstory that has been partially explored in the Avengers franchise. However, to add more complex layers of story and emotions to the character, del Toro seems to be the right choice. He is capable of doing justice to Hulk’s smashing abilities and Bruce Banner’s humane emotions. We all know Hulk is not the most perfect superhero in the MCU, and who better than a director who loves imperfection to direct a movie centered on Hulk?
