Sydney Sweeney Convinced Sam Levinson to Remove a Nude Scene from Euphoria
Sydney Sweeney plays a hot mean girl in the adult series Euphoria which revolves around the lives of youngsters as they navigate the clutches of love, life, and drugs. However, her real-life personality is far from it. She proved her versatility by being snarky in The White Lotus and a confident young girl in Anyone But You. In the show Euphoria, Sweeney plays Cassie Howard, a girl who gets involved with her best friend’s ex-boyfriend.
The nudity and graphic depictions in the show have been subjected to criticism, but at the same time, they portray a close-to-reality situation where modern teens are getting involved in all the wrong things. Despite showcasing nude scenes on various occasions, Sweeney recalled a particular situation where she refused to be naked. In an interview with The Washington Post, she said,
“I said, ‘Sam, I don’t think that she needs to be naked in the scene and I don’t feel comfortable doing it. Everyone’s just going to look at my boobs and not actually take the scene seriously for the content that’s happening.’ He was like, ‘Okay, yeah. You don’t have to do that.’ … I appreciate people being worried … but I’m totally fine on ‘Euphoria.’ ”
When done tastefully, it is understandable that nudity can help further the story or a character arc. But Sweeney pointed out how that scene was unnecessary and convinced Sam Levinson to rethink the scene. She also adds how the show helped her become more comfortable in her skin and feel empowered on screen. Nobody pressured her to be naked on screen and it was done to show how people perceived her character. It was central to see Cassie’s character growth throughout the show.
Will Sydney Sweeney be in Euphoria Season 3?
HBO renewed Euphoria for a third season that will be premiering in 2025. Fans, while happy about the renewal, are sad to have to wait for 3 long years to watch the story continue. Starring Zendaya in the lead, the story will pick up where it left off and feature almost all the central characters including Jacob Elordi as Nate, Sydney Sweeney as Cassie, and Maude Apatow as Lexi. Barbie Ferreira reportedly will not be returning in season 3 as mentioned in her Instagram post. Angus Cloud, who was a crucial part of the star cast, passed away last year.
Euphoria has been impactful in his unconventional narrative and deserves to continue the story till it reaches an organic end. The cliffhanger of season 2 will see the culmination as the characters seek redemption and figure out where to go next. The two seasons of the show are streaming on Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and HBO Max.
