Season 2 of House of the Dragon has ended. Though the finale didn’t include big fights or shocking betrayals, it did move the story forward, setting up exciting things for later. Though it might not have shocked Westerosi fans, a recent revelation about Kit Harington might!
The actor, who played Jon Snow in all eight seasons of HBO’s Game of Thrones, has not watched the spinoff. With this, he has officially joined the growing list of Game of Thrones stars who are giving House of the Dragon a miss.
Kit Harington Avoids Watching Game of Thrones Prequel
Kit Harington, who is currently promoting the third season of HBO’s Industry, recently told the Associated Press that he simply can’t bring himself to watch the prequel series.
I just can’t watch it. I think for me it’s just I’ve spent too long there. And I wish them all the best, and I hope, I hear it’s wonderful and going really well. But I don’t think I’ll ever watch that show, and I don’t think I’ll watch ‘Game of Thrones’ again for a few years.
Harington continued that he needed to step away from the world of ice and fire to fully focus on new roles.
It felt like the thing I wanted to do was get into doing a full character arc, rather than just an episode of this, an episode of that, or a movie arc. I wanted to do a TV character arc again.”
It wasn’t always this way for Harington. In August 2021, the 37-year-old shared with Business Insider that he wanted to watch House of the Dragon to cheer on Miguel Sapochnik, who had worked with him on Game of Thrones. Still, he knew it would be a tough watch since the new show would remind him of the old one, even though he wasn’t part of it.
Even though Harington said he watched some of House of the Dragon in early 2023, he found it hard. He told Extra TV that he enjoyed it, but it was still tough for him to watch.
Two Other Actors Who Also Refrain from Watching House of the Dragon
However, Kit Harington isn’t the only star with this feeling. His former co-star, Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen throughout all eight seasons of Game of Thrones, shared the same sentiment with Variety:
I just can’t do it. It’s so weird, it’s so weird, it’s so strange. It’s kind of like someone saying, “Do you want to go to this school reunion that’s not your year? You want to go back to that school reunion?’ That’s kind of how it feels. I’m avoiding it.
Lena Headey also didn’t watch it. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress, who played Cersei Lannister, was asked if she had seen the prequel series. She simply replied, “Nah.” When asked for more details, Headey mentioned that it would feel “too weird” to watch the show.
It looks like playing such famous characters in the huge world of Westeros has had a lasting impact on the actors. Even though this news might disappoint fans hoping for a crossover, it’s clear that, whether it’s Harington, Clarke, or Headey, moving on from Westeros is important for their careers.
