“I don’t think it was an outsiders problem”: Chadwick Boseman’s Legacy Gets Thrown Into the Spotlight Again as Fans Compare Black Panther 2 to Avengers: Endgame Scene
- Fans wonder why no Avenger attended Black Panther's funeral.
- Two possible reasons include the privacy of the moment and to allow the spotlight to remain on T'Challa.
- Black Panther passed away due to an undisclosed illness in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
No matter how many wonderful Marvel movies come out in the future, there are some that remain etched in fans’ hearts forever. One such movie is Black Panther which featured Chadwick Boseman as the lead. Even though the movie got a sequel, fans still fondly remember the first part of the franchise.
After Boseman’s tragic death, Marvel featured a funeral scene set in Wakanda in the sequel movie to rightfully honor both the actor and his character. However, fans seem to have one complaint with how that scene panned out.
Why did no Avenger attend Black Panther’s funeral?
A recent post on X has gone viral for comparing how every Avenger and major character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe showed up to pay their respects to Tony Stark in Avengers: Endgame. However, no Avenger was seen in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to honor T’Challa’s memory. Rightfully so, the sequel of Black Panther featured a poignant funeral scene that also acted as a tribute to the actor Chadwick Boseman.
In the meanwhile, some die-hard fans of the movie referred to the scene to explain the possible reasons behind such a decision. Firstly, the Marvel executives did not want to take the focus away from Boseman’s legacy and his contribution to the franchise with unnecessary cameos from other Avengers. In such a case, the scene would have been all about getting the stories right to get all others to Wakanda.
Moreover, being a very private and secluded land, Wakanda rarely permits people from outside to enter without reason. It made sense for the royal family to hold a sacred funeral with only close family and friends from Wakanda present. It added a layer of authenticity to the scene, making it more emotional and heartbreaking. This fiery debate has once again ignited the talk about Boseman and his Marvel legacy.
I don't think it was an outsiders problem. I think they just wanted a (mostly) private funeral

Canon explanation: it was decided not to invite foreign dignitaries to T’Challa’s funeral
RW explanation: the scene was also a memorial for Chadwick so the filmmakers didn’t want to take away from the moment by throwing in cameos

To be real the avengers barely knew him on a personal level but they had 10+ years of friendship with Tony

On the other hand, Stark’s sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame was all about his character development and his connection with each specific hero at the time of war. The movie was an ensemble classic that already featured a multitude of heroes, so it made sense for all of them to attend the funeral and honor Stark’s gut-wrenching sacrifice. Moreover, some people claimed that the bond between the Avengers was very different from what they had with T’Challa, hence it made sense for them to be at Stark’s funeral.
How did Black Panther die?
In the sequel to the blockbuster Black Panther, we see the movie begin with a heartbreaking funeral scene featuring the royal family. They are paying their respects to T’Challa, who passed away due to an undisclosed illness. The impact of the same is shown to a great extent since a country like Wakanda that prides itself on being so advanced couldn’t save its own King.
The death of Black Panther was portrayed because actor Chadwick Boseman passed away due to colon cancer. The actor was battling the illness for a long time and time finally came for him to say goodbye to the world. Director Ryan Coogler thought of adding this aspect to the movie to dive into themes of grief and loss while also honoring Boseman’s life through Black Panther 2.
Both movies Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Avengers: Endgame are streaming on Disney+.
