After facing some terrible trauma in her past, Kimiko is a character who cannot speak. She communicates via sign language and out of all the Boys, only Frenchie understands her. They soon form a strong bond with each other, having bared their souls and darkest secrets to each other.

Actress Karen Fukuhara who plays Kimiko in the show is exceptional since she is able to display all her feelings through just facial expressions. All the anger, frustration, sadness, and guilt are portrayed just through her body language and expressions. However, when the finale scene demanded a verbal confirmation of her pain, the showrunners deemed it the perfect moment for Kimiko to finally speak. Fukuhara reveals to TV Guide,

It was a necessary moment because I think she’s all season she’s been trying to speak and you know the thing that’s holding her back is her past experiences and the trauma behind it. It’s not like a physical trait of hers it’s more of an emotional thing that’s prohibiting her from speaking and so at that moment you know it comes out of necessity, she’s really like feeling it in her in the pit of her stomach.

At the same time, speaking after such a long time, in reality, can take a massive amount of strength and pain. People don’t just get over their troubles overnight. Nonetheless, the showrunners expertly took us through Kimiko’s journey as she navigates her pain and tries to work through it in this season.

Fukuhara wanted to get all the aspects of the scene perfectly right. She is going to be speaking for the first time on the show despite all her past traumas and tragic experiences. What she faces in The Boys season 4 finale is worse as her only confidante gets taken away from her. The actress revealed,

You know when I was doing my rehearsals and prepping for it I got really technical about um you know speaking to a speech therapist and what is the first time what does that sound like is it even physically possible to scream is it more like a quiet wow and then on the day Eric directed me in that way and it was like very eye-opening to me and I think way more powerful than what I was originally planning on doing.

The Boys season 4 has come to an end with yet another cliffhanger to trouble people’s curiosity. Now, the wait for the next and final season of The Boys is going to feel excruciatingly long. Nevertheless, we hope the story caps in a satisfying end and gives The Boys the climax it deserves.
