When an actor has been working for 40 long years, it’s only understandable that they develop a sixth sense about the kind of roles they would be great at. When one is an exceptional talent like Jodie Foster, they attract roles that are meant to be a hit on the screen. The Silence of the Lambs, Taxi Driver, and Panic Room are some iconic movies Foster has been a part of. In a conversation with CBS News, Foster delves into her journey in Hollywood and her learnings at the age of 61.

“I had my time. And it’s not my time necessarily anymore. It’s my time to support other people. And I have something to contribute, ’cause I have experience and I have wisdom. But I don’t have to play the same role that I played when I was in my 20s. I think it might be a chemical thing that happens to you when you’re older, where you just kind of relax.”

She started acting at the tender age of three and emphasised how her love for acting hangs in the balance most of the time. After a few tough roles, Foster wishes to take a break and enjoy life away from the camera with her spouse and kids.

“Sometimes I go through years where I just don’t wanna act for a while, or I don’t find anything. I’ll read a perfectly good script about a perfectly good thing that I should be interested in, and I just don’t care.”

Foster’s latest endeavor on screen was in the Netflix movie Nyad, which outlines swimmer Diana Nyad’s journey in the sport. The actress’s entry into Hollywood seemed like fate because she used to live just a mile away from Hollywood Boulevard in LA with her siblings and mother, who was also an actress.

Apart from Nyad, which was released in 2023, Foster has been engrossed in the fourth season of True Detective, where she plays the role of Detective Liz Danvers. Her character has to deal with her inner demons, all the while solving cases that terrorize the town. The series is set in the shivering cold of Alaska.

“It was probably colder than it looked. There are moments when it’s really hard to speak! I didn’t think that I would come back at this level, or I didn’t think that I would come back to acting, as often as I have now.”

Foster has always been considered a mature and skilled actor. Her years of experience make her shine on camera instantly as she takes on more diverse and wide-ranging roles despite identifying as an introvert. She might not be seen in many award events or press conferences, but the industry banks upon her talent as an actor to give her best on screen.
