“I know I don’t look the part”: Jack Quaid Gets Real About His Superman Role That’s Set to Return for Season 2
This year, actor Jack Quaid will have a lot to look forward to. As he takes his career ahead, he is preparing for the iconic show The Boys to return for another season. Becoming a go-to guy in the superhero genre, the actor is also set to return as Superman in the animated show My Adventures of Superman. Quaid voices the lead character on the show, emulating the righteous DC superhero from Krypton.
Jack Quaid Hesitated To Return as Superman
Even though the actor is only voicing the role rather than coming on camera in the blue and red suit, Jack Quaid reveals that he was skeptical about accepting the job for season 2 of My Adventures with Superman. His hesitancy is understandable since Superman is a bulky superhero who thrives on his strength and a knack for doing the right thing. Actors like Henry Cavill and now David Corenswet have taken up the Superman mantle, who are guys with a lot of muscle.
Quaid, on the other hand, just couldn’t picture himself in that stature. He is a lean actor who plays a scaredy Hughie in The Boys. Albeit, his character has undergone a major transformation in terms of grit and determination. When People Magazine asked him how he felt about returning to voice Clark Kent, aka Superman in the animated show, Quaid said at the 2024 SCAD TVFest in Atlanta,
“I remember getting the audition and my first thought was sarcastically like, ‘Oh yeah, I’ll be Superman.’ But to put my own spin on it has just been such an immense honor that I never thought I would ever get the chance to play because I know I don’t look the part. It’s been very weird to play Superman because saying the words ‘I am Superman,’ is a really weird thing to say. It’s impossible to say it without it seeming like a weird flex. But the fact that I got to play this character is just such an honor.”
Even for a voice actor, it’s important to resonate with the role to deliver the dialogues with conviction. Moreover, he was finally convinced to come on board after he knew about the character and the story they were spinning with animation. Despite being Superman in public, he’s deep down a regular guy called Clark. That’s the feeling that attracted Quaid to eventually accept the role and lend his voice to the iconic superhero.
Jack Quaid’s Upcoming Projects
Being the son of actors Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, Quaid has seen the industry work since he was very little. Furthermore, My Adventures with Superman is not the first voice-acting role he’s taken up. He was also a part of the animated juggernaut Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse. Quaid was also seen in the 2023 blockbuster Oppenheimer.
In future projects, the actor is ready for the next season of The Boys to premiere on Amazon Prime. With an interesting set of characters and a menacing storyline, the show became an instant hit among the masses. Fans cannot wait for the show to continue the saga and see how the Boys fare against Homelander and his cunning plans. Another project under pre-production as of now is Novocaine, about a man who doesn’t feel pain. The action thriller is set to release next year.
