One of the scenes in the movie shows Thor crying while holding an almost-dying Deadpool. It was quite unexpected, and this is something that has raised many questions among fans. What made the God of Thunder cry over the Merc with a Mouth?

Ryan Reynolds Knows Why Thor Was Crying

Reynolds recently confessed that he now knows why Thor was crying. But it looks like he might not be announcing the reason, as he has not given any hint about it. Even Deadpool was seen asking Mr. Paradox why was Thor crying in the movie.

The scene is shown when Deadpool is at the TVA, and he watches the footage of Thor holding Deadpool while he is crying. The scene is much like the ending of Thor: The Dark World, where Loki is seen dying in Thor’s arms.

Ryan Reynolds took to his social media and shared a cryptic message that said, “I know why Thor was crying. I can’t unknow it.” It might be a marketing strategy to keep the hype for the movie alive, as Reynolds’ is quite an expert in that. And his cryptic caption has only fueled the fan speculations.

One theory suggests that this could be a variant of Deadpool as the movie deals with the multiverse after all. Maybe the scene is from another reality where Thor and Deadpool fought along with each other. Or maybe it is just a joke about Deadpool’s well-known crush on Thor.

Another strong possibility is that it might just be sample footage from one of the initial drafts of Deadpool 3 production. Executive producer Wendy Jacobson told The National that they considered several ideas initially, including a remake of Thor: The Dark World.

We had a Deadpool deleted scenes extravaganza, where we were going to try to recreate iconic scenes from the MCU films, but now you’re seeing what you didn’t see before—Deadpool was there, his footage just got cut. At one point, there was an idea for a frame-for-frame remake of Thor: The Dark World but with Deadpool until the first act break.

One popular theory is that this scene is about the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars. Some fans think Deadpool might make the ultimate sacrifice. But it is also true that Marvel would not like to get rid of their newly acquired character so soon, especially someone like Deadpool.

Thor and Deadpool Have Teamed Up Earlier

How is Thor in Deadpool & Wolverine at all? It turns out that the makers have used archival footage from Thor: The Dark World, and Loki in Thor’s arms is digitally replaced with Deadpool. Chris Hemsworth was also surprised about his cameo. He told ComicBook,

It’s really cool. You kind of forget and be like, ‘Oh, cool! I’m part of the team. They’re talking about me!’ when I’m not in it.

But this is not the first time Thor and Deadpool have been together as they have teamed up before in comics. In Deadpool #37 from the Marvel NOW! series, they fought together against an evil organization named U.L.T.I.M.A.T.U.M.

Their comic book team-up is filled with action and humor. Thor is a God and a serious character, whereas Deadpool is a chatterbox with a habit of cracking jokes that go beyond the context of what they are doing.

It will be interesting to see if this cameo leads to more Thor and Deadpool content in the MCU. Maybe Reynolds himself decides one day to reveal the truth behind the scene.

Deadpool & Wolverine is now running in theaters.
