“I like the heat of an explosion in my face”: Sylvester Stallone Must Have Hated 1 Thing About His MCU Debut With Guardians of the Galaxy
Being one of the most well-respected and admired actors in the action genre, Sylvester Stallone does not really need an introduction. From the Rocky franchise to other action-packed standalone movies, Stallone has been a revered actor for decades.
More recently, he also made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Although he played a small role in the film, he was successful in leaving a mark on the fandom that wants him back in the MCU in a bigger role. The award-winning actor is known for doing his own stunts, too.
Sylvester Stallone Hates Using Green Screen for Scenes
As an authentic and dedicated actor, it pains Sylvester Stallone to see actors and directors using green screens to showcase cities and perform deadly stunts. He believes filmmaking is an art grounded in reality, and it should be treated as such. Back in the 80s and 90s, actors and stunt doubles had to do the stunts for real, and their bodies had to pay the price with injuries and scars.
But that is also how the audience knew the level of dedication and hard work that went into making a movie perfect. According to Contact Music, Stallone once claimed,
I don’t know how those guys do that green-screen work – I’ve done a bit and it drives me crazy. I like the heat of an explosion in my face, a hunk of tin flying past my head 30 ft from where it should’ve gone! It’s hard to get the emotion without it. It comes at a price. Arnie must have lifted a million pounds of weights in his life but it comes at a price.
There’s only so far you can push the machine, then it’s a case of taking it to the mechanic to get this part fixed, or that part fixed. These days that happens more and more! But I still love the challenge.
With this said, it is not that big of a stretch to believe that Stallone did not like working with Marvel because the grandeur of their setting and locale can only be produced via green screens in studios. The action sequences albeit real are filmed in large studios that can be easily converted from thriving planets to wastelands and bars at the edge of the Earth. Stallone must have missed working with real stunts on the sets of Guardians of the Galaxy.
Will Sylvester Stallone Return to the MCU?
Stallone was seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 in his role as Stakar Ogord. With his MCU debut as a high-ranking Ravager, it was great to see the actor reprise his role in the third volume of the franchise. James Gunn has worked with Stallone thrice now, with The Suicide Squad being the third project. Seems like a steady partnership between the filmmaker and actor, paving the way for Stallone to have a bigger role in the DCU under Gunn.
However, there has been no news of Stallone coming back to the MCU since the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise has also ended with the third part. If the universes collide and the Ravagers find a bigger role in another story, Stallone might be the best man for the role to take their story forward.
