Rappers and singers are known for their exceptional musical prowess. But at the same time, they also have a reputation for having petty feuds and fights that stretch over long periods of time. From Kanye West and Taylor Swift to Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion, numerous people from the music industry tend to hold grudges against their peers.
Stiff competition and a struggle to make it to the top can contribute to growing stress levels where every comment can seem like an attack. Hence, it’s common for singers to namedrop their nemesis in their music and even say something mean related to them.
Megan Thee Stallion comments on feud with Nicki Minaj
After collaborating for an anthem called Hot Girl Summer back in 2019, it seems like things went downhill for singer duo Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj. The singers and rappers went through a terrible phase with multiple namedropping and diss tracks that hurt them both. Many sources including Billboard credit Megan with starting the feud with her collaboration with Cardi B that Minaj reportedly did not like.
Now, Megan spoke to Billboard in the latest interview and shed light on whether any sort of reconciliation is on the cards for Megan and Minaj. She claimed,
I still to this day don’t know what the problem is. I don’t even know what could be reconciled because I, to this day, don’t know what the problem is.
After Megan’s collaboration with Cardi B, Minaj unfollowed her on Instagram and the Rattle singer returned the favor. Rather than talking about their differences privately, Minaj chose to openly take a shot at Megan in her song Seeing Green and Red Ruby Da Sleeze. The singer took countless jabs at Megan before the latter responded with her own single called Hiss.
Megan Thee Stallion lets her emotions guide her music
Despite all the drama with her peers and other people from the industry, Megan lets her emotions guide her through the jungle and makes her music accordingly. From vulnerable tracks that express her innermost feelings to pop-beat tracks people can dance to, her discography is diverse and unique.
Talking about making songs like Body and Moody Girl, Megan shared,
It felt really good to make them because it used to be hard for me to be vulnerable on songs. I could be upset and make a song like “Freak Nasty.” [I’ll be] pissed and I’ll go make that. I’ll be sad and make something like “Body.” I’ve always wanted to open up and not make it too preachy or too sad. I still want to ride the beat. Now I’m getting to a space where I can figure out how to express myself over beats that still allow me to be hard.
Megan will continue to make music that inspires people and lets her wear her heart on her sleeve. She further claimed that she doesn’t care what people think about her as long as she retains her inner power.
