Jay-Z is respected and admired by a lot of young and aspiring hip-hop artists, especially because of his history of impeccable music. The critics as well as the fans have also appreciated his collaborations with artists including Rihanna, Kanye West, his wife Beyoncé, and more. Recent reports have suggested that when the lawyer Tony Buzbee, who is fighting the case against Sean Diddy Combs, linked Jay-Z to the case, he received a stern answer from the artist.

Jay-Z named in a lawsuit alongside Sean Diddy Combs by lawyer Tony Buzbee

According to reports by NBC, Texas-based attorney Tony Buzbee, who is currently fighting against Sean Diddy Combs, had filed a lawsuit against Jay-Z (real name Shawn Carter). The reports have suggested that the original lawsuit was filed in October, naming Diddy as the defendant in the Southern District of New York, and now it has been refiled to include Jay-Z.

Tony Buzbee said (via USA Today)

Combs has been allowed for years to conduct himself in this manner without any consequences. He believes he is above the law. He is not. His close friend Shawn Carter has been with Combs during many such instances…Both perpetrators must face justice.

The lawsuit claims that Combs and Carter allegedly r**ed the victim identified as Jane Doe in 2000 at a house party after the MTV Video Music Awards in New York. The 13-year-old minor at the time did not have a ticket, so she tried to approach the drivers to try to gain access to the show or the after-party. One of the drivers who worked for Combs found that she fit what Diddy was allegedly looking for, so he invited her to the after-party.

It further mentioned that Jane Doe had to sign a nondisclosure agreement on arrival to enter the party, which she described as being full of celebrities and people doing drugs. The minor was offered a drink that made her head lightheaded, and she headed to a room to lie down, and then Combs and Carter entered and took turns r**ing her while the other person, along with an unnamed female celebrity, watched.

Jane Doe, who somehow managed to flee the situation, called up her father after reaching a gas station. She is now seeking unspecified damages. Before the lawsuit was refiled on Sunday, the lawyer noted that Carter had received a letter from the plaintiff’s counsel requesting mediation to resolve the matter.

He added that Jay-Z responded to the said letter by not only filing an utterly frivolous lawsuit but also orchestrating a conspiracy of harassment, bullying, and intimidation against the plaintiff’s lawyer. Buzbee mentioned that Jay-Z has been attempting to silence the victim, her family, employees, and former associates.

Jay-Z gives a fitting reply to Tony Buzbee’s lawsuit

The record executive is one of the most influential and biggest celebrities in the entertainment industry who took to social media to address the recent allegations against him. In a statement posted on Roc Nation’s X account, he wrote,

My lawyer received a blackmail attempt, called a demand letter from a lawyer named Tony Buzbee. What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations, and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle. No sir, it had the opposite effect. It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion. So no, I will not give you ONE RED PENNY!!

Jay-Z further wrote that the allegations brought against him that link him to Combs and his trial are so heinous in nature that he implores the lawyer to file a criminal complaint instead of a civil lawsuit. He noted that whoever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away.

The artist goes on to mention that his heart breaks for his family because he and his wife will probably have to sit down and explain everything to their kids. He pointed out that one of their kids (Blue Ivy Carter) is young enough that her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of the claims. He mentioned in his statement that he mourns the loss of yet another innocence, noting that children should not have to endure such at a young age.

But Tony Buzbee also shared a statement via ABC News that the pleading speaks for itself and it is a very serious matter that will be litigated in court. He also noted via his social media that he’ll not be bullied or intimidated by anyone and people will see through the effort to discredit him and his clients, and the truth will be revealed.

Combs’ lawyers also shared a statement accusing Tony Buzbee of extortion, adding that he has designed a way to extract money from celebrities who fear having lies spread about them. They have maintained their stance that Combs did not assault anyone and the truth will prevail.

Sean Diddy Combs’ trial awaits May 5, 2025.
