Unlike some actors who can fit any character and any narrative seamlessly, there are some who fans can see only in their one or two iconic avatars. Kit Harington as Jon Snow is one such example. In the fantastical show, Harington portrayed the bastard son of Lord Eddard Stark and strived to live a life of honor and dignity like his father.
His entire trajectory in the show is unraveled at great length, with fans rooting for his character to finally get his due and sit on the prestigious Iron Throne. Moreover, apart from Game of Thrones, Harington has worked on several more projects and even made his entry into the MCU with The Eternals.
Kit Harington dealt with Alcoholism after Game of Thrones ended
After Game of Thrones shot him to stardom, Kit Harington seems to have lived a hundred different lives. From entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe to exploring his range in diverse independent movies, Harington is spreading his wings as wide as he can. At the same time, his personal life has also thrived since then. He married his Game of Thrones co-star Rose Leslie in 2018. The couple has two children.
In a recent interview with GQ, Harington thanked his stars for helping him be sober before he fathered any children. Reportedly, the actor dealt with serious alcohol addiction. He took some drastic steps to get his life back on track and focus on things that mattered. Talking about his recovery and journey, the Pompeii actor shared,
The very fact that I can be proud of it is an achievement. Because before getting sober, I would stare in the mirror and call myself a cunt. I’d hate myself. I would literally despise myself and not be proud of anything I’d done. I couldn’t be proud.
So the fact that I am proud of getting sober is in and of itself a mark of being an entirely different person. And now, every set I step onto, whatever work I do, I’m proud of, because I know I put everything into it. Whereas before I had this huge monkey on my back that was just, like, weighing me down. So yeah, the whole nature of being proud of myself is a relatively new prospect for me.
Harington further sheds light on how some of the prominent figures who shared their alcoholism journey also helped him get out of the dangerous quicksand. He is hoping for a brighter future where he does not relapse or fall back into his past habits. The actor is moving on for good and pivoting his focus to more meaningful work and quality family time.
Kit Harington on being diagnosed with ADHD
In 2019, after the magnificent HBO show Game of Thrones came to an end, Harington went through some dark times in his life. Recognizing the problem early on, he got himself signed up for a rehab program where he learned he had ADHD. Harington shared his experience with the Hidden 20% podcast,
And I left that pretty quick and said, ‘I’ll try to deal with this by myself,’ which didn’t work after about four years. My head wants to go to every other thing in the room at once.
Today, Harington couldn’t be more thankful for getting the help he needed. It was certainly a tough journey and he is glad to have covered it so that he can give his kids a better life. HBO was previously considering getting Harington to reprise his iconic role for a spinoff series which was eventually cancelled.
