Gwyneth Paltrow is known for her subtle but complex characters in romantic dramas like Thanks for Sharing, Sliding Doors, and Great Expectations among others.

In the adaptation of Charles Dickens’s iconic novel Great Expectations, she played the role of modernized Estella, whose upbringing was as intricate as Finn’s, but it gets the deserved focus only at the very end. Similarly, in Thanks for Sharing, we get lost in Adam’s story as a recovering s*x addict, but as the plot moves forward, we see how Phoebe herself is trying to jump through so many emotional hurdles.

Irrespective of how the character development takes place in these types of movies, Paltrow stunningly leaves a memorable impression, underlining she’s an expert at portraying such roles. At the same time, these roles make it easier for many to forget she played a very prominent part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Firstly, I always wanted to work with Robert Downey Jr. Also, if someone calls you and says ‘Jon Favreau is directing a movie with Robert Downey Jr, Terence Howard and Jeff Bridges,’ I mean, how do you say no to that? It’s such an amazing group of people,” the Seven star once told Cinema.

Paltrow went on to feature in Iron Man 2 and Iron Man 3, and the audience got to see her getting closer to the Iron Man and eventually fall in love with him. In fact, the pair became MCU’s first romantic couple. They even tie the knot and share a daughter named Morgan Stark.

She got the stage to show her superpower in Avengers: Endgame, making her debut as Rescue to fight off Thanos alongside other superheroes. This also saw the death of her love, Tony Stark, and perhaps also marked the end of her time in the MCU.

Why Gwyneth Paltrow Might Be Done With Marvel Movies

Rescue survived the mayhem with her daughter Morgan, as such you can never rule out Marvel writers to bring back her into the mix going forward. However, after Iron Man 3 Paltrow seemed as if she has had enough of these super-edited superhero movies.

“I just came off of Iron Man 3, which is as special effects-y and action-y as it gets, so to do something like [Thanks For Sharing] where it’s really small, funny and exciting, is really great. I don’t know [about The Avengers 2], I’m getting old for this s***, you know what I mean?,” she once told E News.

In 2019, she again insisted that she might be getting too old for saving the world in fancy suits. She said: “I mean, I’m a bit old to be in a suit and all that at this point.”

The 50-year-old, who once forgot she appeared in Spider-Man Homecoming, surely understands how important these characters (and more importantly details of the plot) are for Marvel fans. As such, it’s best to take a step back if she feels she’s not up for it anymore.

Although in an interview with Variety in 2019, she left doors open for potential cameos. So if you are both a die-hard Marvel and Paltrow fan, keep your fingers crossed for flashbacks or other guest appearances.
