Agatha: All Along gets its witchy vibes from Marvel’s past. Kathryn Hahn stated that the team dug through a ton of old comic books to find cool ideas. She went on to elaborate on The Official Marvel Podcast:

When starting any new project I’d like to make it a point to read all appearances that I can get me hands on if the characters that we’re dealing with, of course, ‘Scarlet Witch Vol. 1: Witches Road,’ Agatha’s early ‘Fantastic Four’ appearances, the 1985 and 86 runs of the ‘Vision and Scarlet,’ which are among many many others that were all quite addictive to our imagining and creation of this holy original ‘Agatha’ series.

One of the comics that inspired the show is Scarlet Witch Vol. 1: Witches Road from 2016, which offers readers a closer look at Wanda Maximoff’s background. In this comic, Scarlet Witch has made a cozy home for herself in upstate New York, but it’s all about to catch fire.

The team also took a magical mystery tour through Agatha Harkness’s early appearances in the 1969 issue of Fantastic Four #94. In that story, when Reed and Sue Richards had a baby named Franklin, they needed someone to look after him. So, guess who came out of retirement to help? None other than Agatha Harkness herself!

And let’s not skip the 1985-1986 The Vision and the Scarlet Witch runs. So, if you find yourself wondering where all those magical vibes in Agatha: All Along will come from, now you’ll know—it’s thanks to some seriously spellbinding comic book research!

In Agatha: All Along, Agatha Harkness is back in action, but this time, she’s not playing around with sitcoms. After the events of WandaVision, Agatha is on a quest to regain her powers, and this new show is bringing in some old-school Hollywood charm.

In the same podcast, Kathryn Hahn explained that while WandaVision had Agatha as a villain who was always lying and keeping things unpredictable, this new show also keeps audiences on their toes but in a different way.

Instead of nodding to old sitcoms, this time they’re paying tribute to the golden age of Hollywood, especially in fantasy and horror. They’re using lots of real, old-school techniques like practical effects, miniatures, and elaborate makeup to create a magical and nostalgic feel. It will make the show look and feel like a classic movie from the past.

Agatha: All Along is set to premiere on September 18, 2024.
