“It always is a deep cut”: Joey King Reveals Her Love-Hate Relationship With Her Childhood Films After Zac Efron Brings Up ‘The Dark Knight Rises’
A Family Affair starring Nicole Kidman, Joey King, and Zac Efron is topping the Netflix streaming charts lately. The romantic comedy movie explores how things can take a different turn when your mother gets involved with your very young and dashing boss.
It has been a fun promotional run for the cast members as they appeared on various shows and platforms to talk about the show. Their chemistry with each other translates well off-screen as well. This was not Efron and Kidman’s first movie together but King’s addition to the cast certainly added a layer of dynamism that brought the entire plot together.
Zac Efron discovered Joey King was in The Dark Knight Rises
During one of the promotional interviews with Cinemablend, High School Musical actor Zac Efron revealed that he didn’t know Joey King was in The Dark Knight Rises. He watched the movie while they were filming A Family Affair and had to let King know of his surprise. The actress, on the other hand, did not expect him to bring the movie up as it was a long time ago. She said,
That was so funny as I get older and the more distance is created from my younger self in my career when people bring up stuff from when I was really young it always is a bit of a deep cut. People bring up Dark Knight Rises or Ramona and Beezus which makes sense but every now and then someone’s like oh Quarantine which was one of my first movies growing up. I was seven and it was a horror movie and I’m like wait what like you that’s cool that you remember it’s fun when people just bring up something that you would never expect.
While King rose to fame with The Kissing Booth franchise, she has been in the industry for a very long time. Ever since she was a kid, King played roles of younger sisters and daughters in movies, having worked with many prominent celebrities including Selena Gomez, Steve Carell, and Anna Farris.
Moreover, for someone who has been in Hollywood for so long, it can get overwhelming to have fans remember such tiny roles and details from when she was so young. They may like how they care enough to remember but King emphasized how it can be a bit weird to relive that part of her childhood.
Joey King’s Upcoming Movies
For a talented and ambitious actress like Joey King, it’s not possible to just stop at one project. She is working on more movies and projects that are set to release soon. One of them is Despicable Me 4 where she voices the character of Poppy Prescott, an entitled young teenager who aspires to be a villainess. Her love for the franchise encouraged her to take on this role and enjoy the company of sweet Minions.
On the other hand, King is working on another Netflix movie called The Uglies. It is said to be a science fiction flick with a layer of action and fantasy. King will be playing the lead role of Tally Youngblood. The movie is based on the eponymous book by Scott Westerfeld that outlines a world where young girls are transformed from uglies to pretties so that they can live a satisfied life. However, Youngblood grows up with a choice that ultimately changes her life.
