Antony Starr, who has portrayed the complex villain Homelander since the show’s start in 2019, recently talked to IGN about his time on The Boys. He shared his excitement for season 4 but admitted he’s not ready to say goodbye yet to the character and the show. “I can’t think of that yet,” Starr said regarding the series finale. He continued:

I can’t go there yet because, first of all, we’ve got a long way to go, and I want to make the most of it and enjoy it. I’m enjoying what’s happening with the show at the moment.

Starr praised his co-stars and the entire crew of season 4, pointing out the huge team effort that makes the show possible. He admitted:

It’s been such a ride together with this group of people that it’ll be very sad. It’ll be a sad day to hang up the spandex.

It’s easy to see why Starr feels so connected to The Boys. The show has been a big part of his life for quite a few years now. Filming started before the COVID-19 pandemic, and the cast and crew have worked through the tough times since then.

Antony Starr acknowledges that the show’s ending is emotional, but he also understands the importance of finishing on a high note, saying, “I’m very conscious that I want us to go out on a really positive, strong note.” He then explained:

I don’t want us to be the show that pushed one season too far and fell flat. On behalf of everyone that works on the show, I think we deserve to go out with our heads up.

The season 4 finale of The Boys is scheduled to air on July 18th. Although there’s no official release date for season 5 yet, it looks like it might premiere sometime in 2026 based on past production timelines. This gives fans time to prepare for the emotional ride of the final season while still enjoying the rest of season 4.

Starr has had an exciting career beyond his famous role as Homelander, including notable performances in Banshee, Outrageous Fortune, Cobweb, Mercy Peak, American Gothic, and Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant. The actor also has an exciting project on the horizon.

He is set to appear in G20, a thriller about terrorists taking over the G20 Summit, putting the lives of global leaders at risk. Viola Davis stars as President Taylor Sutton, who must defend the summit and save her fellow leaders. The film is currently in production, with no release date announced yet.
