After his final and most recent Indiana Jones film’s premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, legendary actor Harrison Ford was seen getting emotional. At the film festival’s Grand Théâtre Lumière premiere of his most recent film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, festival director Thierry Frémaux paid tribute to the actor.

Ford was 37 years old when the Indiana Jones franchise began, and he is now 80 as part five of the action series debuts. Mixed reviews have been given to the film, which features him in a prologue and had the actor’s age digitally reversed. People have noted that Steven Spielberg’s sense of humor and the giddy pleasure that is stirred just by the creative way he blocks a scene are missing from the film. The fifth movie in the series is directed by James Mangold.

Harrison Ford is happy with his age and loves being older

During a press conference, Harrison Ford spoke about the technology used to de-age him, which made him look comparatively younger in the opening sequence. Ford said,

“The technology has evolved to the point where, to me, it seems very realistic and I know that that is my face. It’s not a kind of Photoshop magic, that’s what I looked like 35 years ago because Lucasfilm has every frame of film that we’ve made together over all of these years. And this process, this scientific mining of this library was put to good [use]…”

The actor further continued,

“It’s just a trick unless it’s supported by a story and it sticks out like a sore thumb if it’s not honest, it’s not real… I mean, emotionally real. And so I think it was used very skillfully.”

He added that he is very happy with the result, but does not look back to wish he could go back in time,

“I wish I was that guy again. I’m really happy with age. I love being older. It was great to be young, but s**tfire I could be dead, but I’m still working.”

Harrison Ford is bidding adieu to the Indiana Jones franchise

The actor, who was also seen on Apple TV+’s Shrinking, announced that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is going to be the last time he plays his iconic character. During the press conference, when he was asked about his decision, Ford said, “Is it not evident? I need to sit down and rest a little bit.”

A reporter, however, said that she thinks the actor is hot and was stunned to see him take off his shirt in the second scene in which Ford said that he has been blessed with this body and thanked her for noticing. Ford also shared with Total Film magazine,

“This is the final film in the series, and this is the last time I’ll play the character. I anticipate that it will be the last time that he appears in a film.”

Ford claimed that the new plot was compelling enough to give the character a new life, albeit in a jaded, battered form, and that this is why he decided to rejoin the franchise.

“I wanted to see the weight of life on him. I wanted to see him require a relationship of support and one that was not a flirty relationship.”

Harrison Ford receives a five-minute standing ovation

The Cannes Film Festival 2023 gave Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the franchise’s fifth and likely final installment, a five-minute standing ovation. Actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge stars as Harrison Ford’s character’s erratic English goddaughter, Helena Shaw. Although being a part of the franchise was intimidating to her, she had mentioned in one of her interviews how relaxed everyone was during filming.
