The upcoming thriller movie revolving around aestheticians and skincare specialists is going to blow people’s minds away. Featuring Elizabeth Banks as the industry mogul Hope Goldman and Lewis Pullman as a life coach called Jordon, Skincare will unravel the booming industry to uncover the murky truths about competition and the strife to be on top.

Decoding how he prepared and trained for the role, Pullman shared with ComingSoon.Net how singer Justin Timberlake inspired his voice for the role. He further revealed,

When we were first talking about Jordan’s voice, I thought about trying to figure out how he sounds or likes the people that maybe he respects and how they sound. I started listening to a lot of interviews of Justin Timberlake because… not that he’s a life coach, obviously, but he has a beautiful voice and it’s kind of seductive and sort of soft and slightly effeminate.

I thought that it was 2013, so what if he was obsessed with Justin and was trying to kind of — ’cause he sort of is a chameleon — replicate certain people that he’s looking to or mirror them. But we ended up tuning that down a little bit, the Justin Timberlake voice, but it came out a little bit when he was doing his voice coaching. Thought that was pretty funny.

Portraying a life coach in the movie, it was important for Pullman to have a voice that sounded persuasive and convincing enough. When he came across Timberlake’s interviews from his NSYNC era and later when he made it on his own, Pullman noticed how the singer was able to modulate his voice seamlessly. Inspired by this incredible skill, Pullman decided to model his character Jordon’s voice as per Timberlake’s.

Is Skincare based on a true story?

As the trailer of the movie mentions, Skincare is a fictional story inspired by some real-life events. The director of the movie Austin Peters revealed that the character of Hope Goldman is actually inspired by Dawn DaLuise.

Peters, on the other hand, did not want to create a documentary on the disgraced Hollywood aesthetician. He wanted to make a story that resonated with the masses while giving an insight into the industry at the same time. He told Yahoo Canada,

We made a very conscious decision early on to not try and tell that story, not trying to serve that story, because we didn’t want to make a documentary or a piece of journalism, we wanted to make it a sunshine noir set in Hollywood in 2013.

It is surely an interesting concept in line with the current trends and hip topics of the world. Everyone is obsessed with having a skincare routine and brand loyalists are unable to hear anything negative about their brand. This constant tug of war for more customers and higher profits will be well portrayed in the thriller flick.

Skincare releases on August 16, 2024.
