Netflix’s post-apocalyptic movie Bird Box featured a mystery force and had a very simple premise: If you see it, you die. However, the movie’s reactions resulted in historically high viewing numbers. The makers, rather than having a sequel, decided to have a spinoff film named Bird Box Barcelona. The first film, which starred Sandra Bullock, John Malkovich, and Sarah Paulson, followed survivors in a post-apocalyptic world where they had to stay away from strange beings.

After the success of Bird Box in 2018, Netflix released the spin-off sequel Bird Box Barcelona. The film followed the same events as the original, where mysterious creatures drive people to suicide when they look at them. However, the spinoff film focused on Sebastian, someone who has seen the creatures and survived.

The film had a stellar cast, including Mario Casas in the lead, with Georgina Campbell and Diego Calva. Before the SAG-AFTRA strike, Campbell and Calva talked to CBR about the film and shared their theory about the evil creatures.

When the host asked how the audience never got to see the supernatural beings, the stars shared their theory. Calva said, “It’s probably just like light. No? Or something like that.”

While Campbell added,

“I didn’t really think about it. We have the blindfolds on. You are reacting to something you can’t see. I didn’t really feel like it was necessary to think about what it would look like. And, also, like a feeling that we wouldn’t be able to comprehend what these creatures look like.”

The duo further discussed the challenging part of filming with the blindfolds. The stars of Bird Box Barcelona even described their experience in shooting on the stress of Barcelona and how they had great food and wine during their time in the city.
