Jada Pinkett Smith recalls the moment she knew she was pregnant
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith got married in December 1997 and during an episode of Red Table Talk back in 2018, the actress recalled the moment when she realized that she was pregnant and her reaction to the realization. She said,
“I knew the moment after the act that I was pregnant. The moment. But I knew that night and he didn’t believe me, but I knew. It was almost like that — you know those big locks on the bank? Those big turning locks? I could feel that in my womb, in my uterus. I was like, ‘What am I gonna do now?’ I really didn’t want to get married.”
The actress continued to share that she cried all night because she didn’t want her life to change, she didn’t want to get married, but the duo got married because her mother Adrienne Banfield-Jones was crying and didn’t want the couple to have a child out of wedlock. The actress also claimed that when she told the actor about her pregnancy he instructed her to jump up and down and stand on her head.
She added, according to Pop Crave, “He then called a friend to laugh about her belief that a baby was on the way, before the little ones had even stopped swimming.”
Jada Pinkett Smith said during the conversation on Red Table Talk that, “I was under so much pressure, being a young actress, being young and pregnant. I didn’t know what to do, but I just knew I never wanted to be married.” The talk show host, however, added that Will Smith was excited about the wedding.
Jada Pinkett Smith’s mother describes the wedding day as ‘horrible’
The Girls Trip actress had described her wedding day with Will Smith as horrible as she said that she didn’t want to get married. She said, “I was so upset that I had to have a wedding,” Pinkett Smith went crying down the aisle.
Her mother Adrienne Banfield-Jones also added during the conversation, “The wedding was horrible. Jada was sick. She was very unpleasant. She didn’t cooperate with anything at the wedding.” The actress who has always opposed the traditional definition of marriage was asked by Will Smith on the show about the fundamental bump about the idea of marriage in general that she was against, to which she said,
“I just never really agreed with the construct [of marriage]. I just don’t agree with it. I never have. I still don’t. ‘Til death do us part is real for me, but all the rules and all of the ideas … and what you can’t do because of this title ‘wife’ is a very difficult … the accepted conventional definition of wife and the paradigm. I’m not that.”
Will, on the other hand, said that there wasn’t a day in his life that he wanted anything other than being married and having a family, adding that since he was five years old, he had been picturing how his family would be. He was previously married to Sheree Zampino from 1992-1995 and they share the eldest son, Trey.
Jada Pinkett Smith on why the couple didn’t sign a prenup
The actress who said that she never wanted to get married or have children in the first place explained recently why she and Will Smith never signed up for a prenup before walking down the aisle. The reason is very simple. None of the two ever saw divorce as an option in their relationship.
She said during an interview with Parade via Page Six, “‘No matter what, we’re going to figure it out and that’s why we don’t need a prenup, because I’m making a promise that divorce won’t be necessary, that we will figure this out.’”
Pinkett Smith added that she and the King Richard actor had made a promise to never call it quits during a very real moment for the two of them in which, according to Page Six, they recognized that there would be tough times in their journey. She also revealed that they have been separated since 2016 and she moved out of their house on her 50th birthday, but they have no plans to file for a divorce.
Worthy comes out on 17th October 2023.
