Xolo Maridueña has revealed that his family’s support has played a great role in achieving his success. He had taken up acting as a means to pay his college fees but decided to switch after he landed a role in the Netflix series Cobra Kai.

DC Studios’ CEO James Gunn has given an update on the future of the newest DCEU superhero Blue Beetle portrayed by Mexican actor Maridueña in the movie of the same name. This movie sheds light on the life of Jaime Reyes, a college pass out, who is chosen as the host for its powers by an ancient sentient weapon Scarab.

Xolo Maridueña Will Continue to be A Part of DC

Xolo Maridueña started his acting career with roles in advertisements until he got a role in the NBC series Parenthood at the age of 11. Since then, he has only gotten more famous with roles like Miguel Diaz in Cobra Kai. His latest role as Blue Beetle only adds to his list of achievements.

A couple of days before the release of the movie, James Gunn posted on Instagram with a not-so-discreet caption that pointed out that Blue Beetle will continue to be a part of the DC Universe. It said:  “I can’t wait for audiences to meet Jaime Reyes, who will be an amazing part of the DCU going forward!”

Blue Beetle was a highly anticipated DCEU movie that would not only launch the character of Jaime Reyes in the universe but also decide the future of Xolo Maridueña in the franchise. A day after the movie’s release, The Hollywood Handle posted a tweet stating James Gunn has announced that Blue Beetle will be seen in the future DCU movies.

Although James Gunn has proven to be a great filmmaker with the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, the box-office performances of some of the most recent DC movies have been mediocre at best. In fact, the last DC movie that touched the billion-dollar mark was 2018’s Aquaman that grossed $1.148 billion.

Shazam! The Fury of Gods only managed to gross $134 million although the first installment of the movie had done pretty well considering it was a new superhero at the time. The Flash had a similar fate as it earned $269 million against an estimated production budget of $265 million which implies that it wasn’t even able to break even.

Keeping all this in mind, it was hoped that Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle will do better than the last couple of DC movies as it was a refreshing new take on the universe. However, that does not seem to be the case as the movie might not cross the $30 million mark which might not be too good considering its production budget of $104 million. The fact that James Gunn has announced a DC reboot might have something too do wit the lackluster performance of the last of the real DC movies.
