Jenna Ortega loves Stranger Things
When Stranger Things first released on Netflix, Jenna Ortega binged the show. However, she admits to not watching the other subsequent seasons since she’s bad at keeping up with television. At the same time, Ortega recently emphasized how the sci-fi show had a huge impact on her and made her love Winona Ryder even more.
Ortega was understandably thrilled to know she would be sharing the screen with the beloved Joyce Byers from Stranger Things. Talking about her experience, Ortega told MTV,
I’ve been so bad about Stranger Things. Because obviously, it all came out. And it was a huge deal, it still is a huge deal. I love sci-fi, I love it when it could be done well. I did not make it past the first season. So it’s been a couple of years because I’m bad with TV. The reason I say this is because I don’t want to be questioned on it later and embarrass myself. So let it be known that, whenever that first came out, that was the last.
The actress goes on to claim how Ryder’s early career as well as her other collaborations with Tim Burton are very inspiring for her. Ortega loves everything Ryder has done and she was super excited to play her daughter in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. She shared in another one of her interviews how she followed every fan theory for Stranger Things and her obsession must have led her down some bizarre rabbit holes.
Jenna Ortega’s Character in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
Ryder seemingly shares similar feelings about Ortega as the duo hold mutual respect and love for each other. The Edward Scissorhands actress shared how they both have the same reverence for movies and they bonded over that on the sets of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Ortega is set to play Ryder’s daughter, Astrid in the movie. When Lydia Deetz returns to Winter River, she brings her goth teenage daughter with her.
The sequel will also feature Astrid’s relationship with Beetlejuice as well as her rebellious attitude that often lands her into trouble. Despite having such great chemistry, Ryder and Ortega had to play a mother-daughter duo at odds with each other.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice hits the theatres on September 6, 2024.
