Jeremy Renner Describes Clint and Kate’s Relationship as ‘Beautifully Intimate’ In Hawkeye
Kate Bishop and Clint Barton are set to kickstart their adventure with Hawkeye and their unique relationship will be the focal point of the much-anticipated Disney+ series.
While appearing at a press conference, Hawkeye stars Hailee Steinfeld and Jeremy Renner answered a few questions about how the two characters get along in the series and how the tragedy faced during Thanos’ Blip informs the duo’s dynamic.
Kate Bishop and Clint Barton Complement Each Other Well In Hawkeye
“You know, I don’t operate — I suppose it was survivor guilt, outside just dealing with the loss,” Renner said. “Then, there’s a lotta things that are lost. You know what I mean? It’s addressed in the show, which I think is beautifully intimate. It brings our characters closer together, as well as the audience, I think. There’s a lotta weight that’s carried. There might be a seemingly veneer of grumpiness in this resting face, right, in the show.”
Hawkeye went on to jokingly call Hawkeye the “grandpa of the MCU,” highlighting how Kate Bishop’s young attitude compliments Barton’s grumpy demeanor. Renner added, “It’s managing losses, is the superhero game, and the lightness and brightness that Hailee’s character brings in, it kinda counteracts that and comes in and kinda get it to level out some. So, it’s pretty cathartic, and I think quite beautiful.”
Even Hailee went on to second this sentiment while addressing that behind the playful banter between the duo, Kate and Clint truly care for each other and form a friendship over the course of the series.
Here’s what Hailee Steinfeld had to say:
“Kate sees Clint as someone, despite his past, as someone who wants to do good and wants to help people, and that’s all she wants to do in life. She’s inspired by him and motivated by him and wants to be at his level and is very over-eager, and he puts up with a lot. But she really delivers at the end of the day.”
Hawkeye sees Clint Barton’s past coming back to haunt him when a young archer who also happens to be a huge Hawkeye fan starts fighting crime in the streets of New York while wearing a costume resembling Ronin. After the duo’s realization that they have similar goals, they set off to face some threats which include Tracksuit Draculas, the mysterious Echo, and an assassin called The Clown. Echo is played by Alaqua Cox and while it’s unknown how the character will pan out in Hawkeye, an Echo spin-off series has already been announced by Disney+. Kevin Feige had earlier teased that the events of Hawkeye will set up Echo, with both Hailee and Jeremy Renner returning to reprise their roles.
