Jeremy Renner Recalls Yelling at Tom Cruise, Says “F*ck You Iron Man” and Makes a Blunt Avengers Confession
- Jeremy Renner recently taunted Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man and recalled screaming at Tom Cruise during his Burj Khalifa stunt.
- Renner has watched only 'The Avengers' and half of 'Endgame' and confessed initial hesitations about his Hawkeye role.
- Apart from 'Hawkeye' Season 2, Renner talked about potentially facing Robert Downey Jr.'s Doomsday in the future of the MCU.
Jeremy Renner has been in the entertainment business for almost three decades now. The actor has been part of some big productions like Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible franchise and, of course, Marvel’s Avengers.
Renner has not been able to return to acting since his unfortunate snowplow accident in 2023. In his latest public appearance, he opened up about some of his memorable past experiences working with Cruise and fellow Avengers along with future possibilities.
Jeremy Renner’s Avengers Confession and Experience With Tom Cruise
Jeremy Renner first appeared in his iconic Hawkeye role in Thor, where he had a brief screen time. The actor then portrayed the character in Captain America: Civil War and every other Avengers movie, except Infinity War.
After spending so much time with a role, one would assume that the actor would be familiar with every on-screen appearance of his character. However, in a recent interview at the Red Sea International Film Festival (via The Hollywood Reporter), Renner confessed that he has watched only The Avengers and half of Endgame.
The actor initially hesitated about a long-term commitment to his role as he said, “I don’t think anybody wants to see me at 50 in tights.” However, he admits that it ended up “being one of the more beautiful experiences” in his life as he found five of his best friends on set.
Moreover, after going through multiple surgeries for 38 broken bones, he taunts Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, saying (via Deadline),
I don’t look at it as a limitation even though I am 25% titanium, so f**k Iron Man, I’m Titanium Man…
Apart from the MCU, Renner worked in the Mission: Impossible franchise in Ghost Protocol and Rogue Nation, and in RSIFF, he shared an incident where he scolded Tom Cruise for checking his phone while hanging out of Burj Khalifa.
I’m hanging out, in a suit with a belt on, this guy’s holding the rope, and he’s [Cruise] looking on his phone. ‘Hey dude, maybe you want to pay attention?’… I literally could have fallen out of that building, slipped by and Tom made like four phone calls, before I hit the ground.
Renner was last seen using bows and arrows in Hawkeye along with Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop. He will be next seen in Knives Out 3 along with Daniel Craig, Josh O’Connor, Josh Brolin, and Mila Kunis, among others, in 2025.
Will Hawkeye Return to the MCU?
Clint Barton was shown living his retirement life in Hawkeye until Kate Bishop decided to bring back his Ronin identity in front of the public again. The show showed Barton’s past actions, their consequences, and his interaction with Yelena.
Although its ending seemed like a happy one where Barton went back to his family life, it can’t be said with certainty that he won’t be caught up in trouble again. In his interview with Us Weekly, he said that he could return to face Downey’s Doomsday. He further added,
I’m excited about it. We’ll see. I think we’ll probably be doing it. We’ll have to figure it out. It’s all brand new. It all just happened. They just made the announcement, so I guess we got to start figuring it all out.
It is still not confirmed how Barton will contribute to the future of the MCU. He might possibly become a mentor for Young Avengers, just like he did with Kate Bishop, or he could be seen appearing in cameos in crossovers like the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.
As of now, insider MyTimeToShineHello on X has revealed earlier that Hawkeye Season 2 will be focusing on Clint’s brother Barney and will feature the team of Clint and Kate Bishop once again.
