Kaiju No. 8 episode 4 started with the protagonist, Kafka Hibino, forcing himself to stand and continue the exam. As he couldn’t walk due to his broken leg, Reno Ichikawa had to carry him on his back. Meanwhile, Kikoru leapt through the battlefield with enviable speed and killed every Yoju on the way.

Just as she killed the final Honju, ending the exam, a humanoid Kaiju appeared behind the Honju and shot Kikoru in the heart. The humanoid Kaiju then started reviving the Honju and all other Yoju that had been killed by Kikoru. It then shot Kikoru several more times when she tried to fight it and disappeared from the scene.

The injury prompted a brief flashback, introducing Kikoru’s childhood and memories of her father. After the flashback ended, Kikoru started fighting the Honju but she kept getting hurt instead. Just as her death was imminent, Kafka appeared and transformed, killing the Honju and begging Kikoru to keep his transformation a secret.

Later it was revealed that everyone survived due to Kikoru and Kafka’s efforts. Before the episode ended, the humanoid Kaiju was revealed as someone who was able to transform into a human and seven working from Kafka and Ichikawa’s old cleanup crew.
