Best known for her role as Penny in the smash hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory, Kaley Cuoco is a great actress with excellent comic timing. She was most recently seen in Role Play where she plays a spy who hides her true identity from her family. The actress has been undertaking some vivid roles that explore her versatile skills all the while spending time with her newborn baby and family. After spending 12 years in one role on TV, it gets increasingly important for actors to take on diverse roles and break free from the mold of that one character everyone knows them for.

Will There Be a Third Season for Kaley Cuoco’s The Flight Attendant?

A recent announcement made it clear that the comedy suspense show The Flight Attendant will not be returning for a third season. Based on a 2018 novel of the same name, the series did well when it premiered but many fans felt that the second season veered away from the story. The plot of the series outlines a flight attendant named Cassie’s experience, played by Kaley Cuoco after she discovers a dead body next to her. The first season follows her efforts to clear her name.

Cassie gets recruited by the CIA in the second season’s premise which further poses the question of a third season to continue the story. However, the makers of the show ultimately decided not to go for it and let the story end with two seasons. In a statement regarding this announcement, Cuoco said,

“What started out as an attention-grabbing book cover quickly evolved into an extraordinary flight of a lifetime. I always envisioned TFA as a limited series and thanks to an incredible creative team, we were able to deliver two thrilling seasons. Personally, playing Cassie has been a dream come true and I am so grateful for everyone who played a part in bringing this extremely original series to life.”

The series was created by Steve Yocky for television who describes the show as a true passion project. The audience loved the fresh new concept of the show and critics appreciated the makers and actors of the series. The Flight Attendant earned Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for the first season as well. Season 2 of the show even roped in Sharon Stone to play Cassie’s mother in a few episodes and to boost the show’s viewership given Stone’s popularity and award-winning talent.

How Did Fans React to the Cancellation of the Series?

The second season did not quite meet fans’ expectations as it was not a classic suspense story, but a study into each character’s journey and struggles. Rather than a proper thrilling journey, the show became a drama that focused on each person’s development and trajectory. This is mainly why some fans believe it best to end the show after the second season and not stretch the story further.

Such stories work best as limited series that are concise and keep in mind the young audience’s attention span. When the story is right and has all the wonderful whodunit elements, people love the twists and turns till the time they are believable and rooted in logic. Some X users even claim that they didn’t know season 2 existed which points to the fact that season 1 was a well-rounded story with no need for continuation.

Both the seasons of The Flight Attendant are streaming on HBO Max.
