The Marvel Cinematic Universe has become a cultural sensation and grabbed a lot of attention globally with its storyline and visuals by bringing beloved comic book characters to live-action movies. The architect behind the whole thing is Marvel Studios’ president, Kevin Feige, who has successfully taken the cinematic universe through its ups and downs.

Among the major problems faced by MCU in 2021 was Eternals. The movie introduced brand new characters. While possessing a great cast and a complex story, it still faced a lot of criticism from the viewers and a mediocre box office collection, which left a question mark on its future in the MCU.

Eternals’ Future Hanging in Balance

According to Daniel Richtman, Iger’s leadership at Disney is becoming more cautious, choosing only what is certain to succeed and avoiding any risks at all costs. As a result, it is alleged that this decision may scrap the sequels for Eternals, Ant-Man, and Captain Marvel.

However, Kevin Feige is still rooting for an Eternals sequel despite the reluctance of Bob Iger. For the future of these movies, Marvel Studios’ struggle must find a balance between sticking to the story arcs and achieving wider commercial success.

However, certain reports state that contrary to a sequel, it is very likely that Marvel Studios might be considering other variations of storytelling for Eternals. According to an insider, MyTimeToShineHello, Eternals 2 has transformed into another project.

The Eternals could simply be characters who become part of larger projects, either as supporting characters or as members of a team with Thor or Guardians of the Galaxy. This could decrease the financial risk and still enable the studio to complete the second part by resolving the cliffhanger ending of the initial movie.

However, according to The Direct, Eternals 2 could be called Celestials: End of Time. This name became popular online after many trademark filings of Marvel were leaked online. It is also reported that Marvel Studios did file a request to the European Union Intellectual Property Office for the exact title in July 2022.
