Born in 1965 to parents Tom Atkinson and Dorothy Davis, Kristin Davis has had a loving childhood despite her parents getting divorced a few years later. Her mother married Keith Davis, who adopted Kristin and loved her all the same. Dorothy, Kristin’s mother, worked as a university data analyst back in 1968 and supported their family.
Keith, on the other hand, worked as a professor at the prestigious University of Colorado Boulder. Though she is the only child of Dorothy and Tom, Kristin is also close to Keith’s three daughters, making them step-siblings. Tom also worked as a provost and taught psychology at the University of South Carolina.

Kristin shared on Instagram that her father Tom Atkinson has passed away, leaving the family to mourn his loss with a jazz band and celebrate his life. As Kristin shared in her post, Tom did not want sadness over his passing as he left clear instructions on what to do when he dies. The actress wrote in the caption,
My Dad passed away recently, and the family gathered for the celebration of his life that he had left detailed instructions for. He was born to be a teacher and loved it so much. He was brilliant and bright, and people loved him.
Kristin’s pride is evident in her post as she loved her parents for all they had done for her. Rather than having 2 parents like most, she had the love of three people who cared for her deeply.
Kristin Davis’ father had Parkinson’s Disease
The last few years of Tom’s life were a battle as he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Kristin shared on Instagram that he faced new challenges every day and found it hard to even move around. The progressive brain disorder affects 1 in 100 people and begins to reveal symptoms after the age of 60.
The man was loved by all as he spread a wave of cheer wherever he went. Kristin further shared how he loved studying and teaching psychology and had impacted so many lives as a teacher. His loss has left a hole in Kristin’s family.

With the Instagram post and a heartfelt caption, Kristin managed to say a few words that expressed how she felt about her loving and devoted dad. Her followers and fellow actors also chimed in with their condolences and words of grief. Kristin wrote in the post,
I’m so grateful for the support he got and the perseverance he showed in a very real and difficult struggle. Thinking of our whole family and especially my Mom. We love you, Dad, and we are so grateful you lit up our lives and left us with so much.
