Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, the stars of Freaky Friday, are reuniting for a sequel named Freakier Friday. They shocked everyone with a surprise appearance at the Disney’s D23 Expo.
Even better, the sequel is set to bring back the most iconic part of the original film. If you’re looking forward to a nostalgic trip with the new film, you’ll be pleased. The sequel will include new songs from Pink Slip on its soundtrack.
Pink Slip Makes a Comeback in Freakier Friday
One of the coolest things in the original Freaky Friday was the music from Lindsay Lohan’s character, Anna Coleman, and her band, Pink Slip. The fictional band features Lohan, Christina Vidal, and Haley Hudson as Anna, Maddie, and Peg—all returning for the sequel.
Their hit song Take Me Away was super popular, and fans have been looking forward to hearing more music like that again. Thankfully, it seems like their wishes will be granted. Lohan has revealed that she has recorded new songs with Pink Slip for the Freakier Friday soundtrack. The actress told PEOPLE in a conversation:
When we were [filming the songs, audience members] were like, ‘Encore!’ And we were like, ‘We only have one song, we didn’t think this through!’ But there are more songs in this movie.
Jamie Lee Curtis continued, “Let me just say this. There’s a song in this new movie that is going to the…” To this, Lohan added:
It tugs on your heartstrings. It will be a very popular song. It’ll be the song of the summer next summer. I guarantee it. And I’m an old lady and so you should trust me on this.
The Freaky Friday Sequel Has a New Twist to the Classic Story
According to a press release from The Walt Disney Company, the sequel features a “multigenerational twist” to the original story. Although the plot details are still a secret, it’s revealed that Lindsay Lohan’s character, Anna, now has a daughter of her own. This cranks up the wacky of the body-switching story to a whole new level of hilarity!
Jamie Lee Curtis shared her excitement about teaming up with Lohan again, saying, “It feels like no time has passed. We’re very close.” The great chemistry between the two actresses was clear in the first film, and fans can’t wait to see them back together on screen.
With a great cast featuring familiar faces like Chad Michael Murray and Mark Harmon, plus exciting newcomers Manny Jacinto and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Freakier Friday is looking like a must-see for fans of the original movie. Although the official release date hasn’t been announced yet, Disney has confirmed that Freakier Friday will have a theatrical release in 2025.
