Werner Coetser, Brendan Murray, and Clive Russell have joined the cast of the large-scale manga and anime series’ live-action adaptation. Iñaki Godoy’s character Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates will have each of them as an ally.

The two leaders of the Giant Warrior Pirates in the original material, Dorry and Brogy, will be portrayed by Coetser and Murray. Russell, from Game of Thrones, will portray Crocus, a knowledgeable physician and lighthouse keeper.

Fans took to X to express their excitement and barely restrained joy as the casting confirmed the Little Garden Arc. The Little Garden Arc is the ninth story arc of One Piece, and the third story arc of the Arabasta Saga.

The three actors will appear alongside other recent hires Daniel Lasker, Camrus Johnson, Jazzara Jaslyn, and David Dastmalchian, who will portray members of the criminal group Baroque Works. Returning to the series are Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero, and Taz Skylar, alongside Godoy.

According to Netflix’s semiannual statistics release, One Piece, which debuted in August 2023, was the most popular series for the second half of 2023 based on views (total viewing hours divided by running time). A mere two weeks after its debut, the show was quickly renewed for a second season.

For season two, Matt Owens and Joe Tracz are executive producers and co-showrunners. Together with Steven Maeda, who is still an executive producer but has abdicated his showrunning responsibilities, Owens held the same title in season one.

After serving as a writer and co-executive producer on Disney+’s first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Tracz now serves as an executive producer on the show. Creator of One Piece Eiichiro Oda, Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements, Tetsu Fujimura, and Chris Symes also executive produce.
