Marvel Finally Brings Comic Accurate ‘Old Man Logan’ to Life in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ — Fan Theory
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is preparing for one of its boldest undertakings since Avengers: Endgame with Deadpool & Wolverine. As Hugh Jackman returns to play his iconic role, an interesting fan theory claims that Deadpool 3 may be a movie adaptation of the popular Wolverine series.
The Wolverine was last seen in Logan, which was released in 2017. The movie borrowed a lot from the Old Man Logan comics, but it was not exact, as in the movie, Charles Xavier was the reason for the deaths of many X-Men, and not Logan. Now, with Deadpool & Wolverine, Marvel appears to be following the exact post-apocalyptic era of the famous storyline.
Old Man Logan Storyline Reimagined in Deadpool & Wolverine?
This expectation has been further fueled by the second trailer for the movie, which gives a sneak peek into the desert-like wasteland that appears to be like the Old Man Logan landscape. The concept of the multiverse in the movie has now given more hope to fans of the epic storyline.
Old Man Logan is a critically acclaimed series that shows a dark, dystopian future where villains have taken over the world and an old Wolverine has retired. The plot revolves around Logan, who travels across the United States, watching the remains of the world he once knew.
This storyline was used in Logan, but the producers chose to go for a more realistic approach and focused on Wolverine attempting to protect the young mutants in a world with very few mutants remaining.
As per a fan theory, Deadpool & Wolverine might follow the Old Man Logan series. In the comics, Logan also failed to use his claws every time. He used them only when he needed to fight. This situation is shown in the trailer as well, when Deadpool meets Wolverine in the bar.
Logan also tried to kill himself in the comics by putting his neck on a railway track, and in the trailer as well, it can be observed that he has left every will to live. In the comics, all mutants died because of Logan and a similar thing can be heard in the trailer when the TVA says he let his entire world down.
Moreover, the writer Mark Miller himself, on his X account, talked about the remains of the Giant Man in the trailer when Cassandra Nova came out of his skull in the trailer. The Old Man Logan comics also had a scene of Giant Man Hank Pym’s skeleton.
Will X-Men Finally Arrive in the MCU After Deadpool & Wolverine?
Deadpool & Wolverine isn’t just about revisiting a beloved comic book storyline, it also marks the much-needed appearance of the X-Men. The film is set to introduce a number of mutants from the old X-Men films.
The trailer shows glimpses of familiar faces like Azazel from X-Men: First Class, Callisto from X-Men: The Last Stand, Lady Deathstrike and Pyro from X2, and possibly Toad and Sabretooth from the initial X-Men film. There is also speculation that Jennifer Garner, who starred as Elektra in the Daredevil and Elektra films, may return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Moreover, according to scooper CanWeGetSomeToast, Storm, Jean Grey, and Cyclops might also appear in the movie. The trailer also gives a short glimpse of The Punisher from Lionsgate Films.
Regardless of whether or not the fan theory is accurate, Deadpool & Wolverine is set to revolutionize the MCU with grand action sequences, beloved characters, and some dark humor as well. Directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the movie is expected to be a treat for fans.
Deadpool & Wolverine will be released in theaters on July 26, 2024, in the US and July 25 in the UK.
