Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is of the most amazing franchises that have given life to a variety of characters and tales. Elizabeth Olsen’s portrayal of Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, stands out as a deep and compelling character in the MCU tapestry, making her one of the most potent Avengers. Scarlet Witch is one of the most powerful characters in the MCU, and we have seen that in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch

Olsen’s character was the villain in the film until she sacrificed herself to destroy the Darkhold, the wicked book of sorcery that had corrupted her, and the story finished with the character being crushed under a falling structure. However, during the influence, the Scarlet Witch killed many characters including Professor Xavier. There are reports that Patrick Stewart’s character will return in Secret Wars.

Patrick Stewart as Professor X

Patrick Stewart might have a comeback in MCU. The actor has long been a fan-favorite in the superhero genre. He played Charles Xavier, aka Professor X, in the X-Men movies. His first time playing Professor Xavier was back in 2000’s X-Men. Stewart returned to the role 22 years later during the Multiversal shenanigans of Doctor Strange 2. However, his character was violently murdered by Elizabeth Olsen‘s Scarlet Witch, under the Darkhold’s influence.

Recent reports state that, Professor X will return in Secret Wars. The film will be the end of Marvel’s Phase 6 and eventually culminate in the multiverse saga. So Stewart’s character will fit in the film perfectly. The biggest argument is about the age of Stewart.

The actor is 80 plus, and Marvel is known for planning for the future. With the introduction of X-Men to the MCU, they would also have future X-Men projects in mind. The Macbeth star might not be the studios’ choice to play a long-term Charles Xavier in the MCU.

Kevin Feige confirmed at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con Marvel panel that Avengers: Secret Wars will be released on May 1, 2026, back from its original date of November 8, 2025.

Marvel removes Elizabeth Olsen from upcoming books cover page

Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch

Marvel fans across the globe are curious after Marvel officially removed Elizabeth Olsen from their upcoming book Marvels Studios The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline cover. Previously, Olsen’s character was on the book’s initial cover, but according to Penguin Random Houses’ official listing, Loki and Sylvie have now replaced her among Iron Man, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Shang-Chi, and Thanos.

The actress’s presently inactivity inside the MCU is cited as one of the primary reasons she was dropped from the cover. The famed Scarlet Witch, played by none other than Elizabeth Olsen, has not appeared in any Marvel comics since she passed away in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Fans eagerly anticipate the Scarlet Witch’s return to the big screen, even though there is currently no official information regarding how she will do it.

Frequently asked questions

Which Marvel hero did Scarlet Witch kill in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?

In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, corrupted by the Darkhold, kills Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, a Charles Xavier variant who served on the Illuminati of an alternate universe (Earth-838). She ends his telepathic attack by fatally snapping his neck. He is one of several Illuminati members she kills in that sequence, alongside Captain Carter, Black Bolt, Captain Marvel, and Reed Richards.

Is Professor X actually confirmed to return in Avengers: Secret Wars?

No. Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed any Professor X return. The article is based on reports and speculation and should be treated as a rumor. Because Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to draw heavily on the multiverse and could feature many variants, fans see a Professor X appearance as plausible, but until Marvel announces it, any specific return remains unconfirmed.

How could a character who died in Doctor Strange 2 come back in Secret Wars?

The Professor X who died in Doctor Strange 2 was an alternate-universe variant, not the MCU’s main Charles Xavier, so his death does not prevent another version from appearing elsewhere in the multiverse. Comic-based Secret Wars stories also involve realities colliding and being reshaped, which opens the door to variants returning. Any details about how such a return might happen are fan speculation and not officially confirmed by Marvel.
