Marvel Upgrades The Superhero Powers For The Upcoming Eternals?
Gemma Chan, who is going to play Sersi in Eternals, revealed that Marvel has upgraded the powers of the superheroes to make them stand modified from their comic versions.
The upcoming Marvel Studios project, Eternals is directed by Chloe Zhao. In the film, Captain Marvel is going to play her second role in the MCU. This character of Gemma Chan will step into the Eternals team as Sersi. Keeping these things in a loop, Chan recently revealed some details about Sersi and her superpower abilities.
She said: “Sersi is not your typical superhero: she’s not necessarily the best fighter, she doesn’t have the most obviously impressive powers. The main thing is she’s an empath. She has a connection with humans, and with the world and the Earth. That is her strength, so I leaned into that.” It seems like the makers are planning to make and bring some significant changes in the characters as compared to their comic versions.
In the original comic book, Sersi is a telepath character who can communicate psychically, project thoughts, read minds, and even use hypnosis to control other people. However, she has never been shown to be an empath in the comic world. With that said, while the movie version of Sersi will have psychic powers, it is highly expected that her power will be enhanced and upgraded alongside her usual telepathy superpowers.
Sersi will be the second major add-on that is going to be introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first one will be a character that debuted in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. II, named Pom Klementieff’s Mantis. She had also reprised as Mantis in Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War. With that said, this character is also expected to make a significant appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. III.
This character, Sersi, got its first introduction in 1950, like Circe in Venus. However, the modern character of Circe debuted in Eternals (1976) that was created by Jack Kirby. He is the one who has illustrated and written this character, though her name was primarily spelled as “Sersy.”
The Marvel Studios’ Eternals is going to get its theatrical release on November 5 this year, making it to become the third MCU film of 2021. The first MCU release in 2021 was Black Widow that was premiered on July 9. Eternals will release after Legend of the Ten Rings and Shang-Chi. Additionally, it is clear that Eternals will release much before Spiderman: No Way Home that is scheduled to get released on December 17.
