The movie’s retro-style trailer and vibe soon became the talk of the town. MaXXXine managed to charm viewers as it amassed a 72% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a $22 million collection at the box office. Though the movie was released back in July, fans can now watch it in the comfort of their homes. Read on to know the details.
About MaXXXine’s Thrilling Plot
MaXXXine follows a young woman’s journey as she strives to make it big in Hollywood. Set in the 1980s, when the industry was starting to take off, Maxine Minx entered Los Angeles with a big smile on her face and a bigger dream. She finally gets her big break and gets known across town as an adult film star with aspirations to be a mainstream actress.
However, a sinister plot envelops the air around Minx as a killer threatens to unravel her past, present, and future. The gritty thriller narrates the story of how Maxine deals with this curveball while keeping a straight face in front of the world.
Who plays MaXXXine and the other cast members?
The titular character of Maxine Minx is played by Mia Goth. The British actress found her way into the industry with an erotic art film called Nymphomaniac. Since then, she has done some pretty bold movies that need an actor in their most authentic self. With MaXXXine too, Goth is channeling her inner fierceness as she tackles yet another courageous role.
Elizabeth Debicki, best known for her role in The Crown, plays Elizabeth Bender in the movie. Bender is a British film director working on The Puritan II, which is a fictional movie Maxine auditions for. Debicki’s character is intertwined with the titular character, the nuances of which you’ll know once you watch the movie.
Maxine’s close friend Leon is played by Moses Sumney. Leon operates a video store which makes Maxine believe he was behind the adult video that gets leaked. Nevertheless, their friendship endures many obstacles and gives Maxine a shoulder to lean on.
Other actors appearing in the movie include Michelle Monaghan as Det. Williams, Bobby Cannavale as Det. Torres, and singer Halsey as Tabby Martin.
Where to stream the movie?
After being released in theatres in July this year, MaXXXine has finally landed on Max. Users can also rent or buy the movie on Amazon Prime Video for $5.99 or $19.99 respectively. For true fans of the genre, the horror-thriller flick will be best enjoyed alone with the lights dimmed.
Is MaXXXine a sequel?
Ti West’s trilogy is finally complete with MaXXXine. Technically, it’s a threequel, not a sequel. West’s past works X and Pearl are a part of a franchise that the recent movie continues.
The story has been conceptualized and written by West as he continues to drop hints and weaves together an intricate tale with the three movies. The two characters in the center of the whirlwind are Pearl and Maxine. Goth has played the role of both characters.
Presumably, the capitalized triple X in the title of the movie hints at the fact that this is a part of the X movie series by West as well as a threequel in the sequence of things. Pretty clever, isn’t it?
