MCU: Shang- Chi Proves Doctor Strange Could’ve Whooped Thanos
The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4’s Shang- Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings proves that Doctor Strange could have easily defeated Thanos. The movie introduced many new characters but it also brought back the fan favorites Captain Marvel and Bruce Banner to make an impactful cameos in the movie’s post- credit scene.
In the scene, the pair tries to identify the origins of the mysterious Ten Rings. In Shang- Chi, the MCU subtly shows how Doctor Strange could have actually taken down Thanos. During the Phase 4 film, Wong returns to the MCU and fights against the Abomination in the Macau’s fight club. During the fight, Wong is able to efficiently handle Abomination by pulling some last minute tricks. As Abomination goes to punch Wong, the Master of the Mystic Arts creates a portal, which sends Abominations fist flying at his own face.
As a result, Abomination knocks himself out, and seemingly showing how Doctor Strange could have actually used similar tactics against Thanos.
Because of Shang- Chi, it seems that Doctor Strange could have easily defeated Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. Wong has a simple strategy against Abomination in the movie aka using the villain’s own strength against him.
Considering Thanos was one of the most powerful characters in the MCU and having his strength increased with Infinity Stones, Doctor Strange could have followed something very similar. But instead, Doctor Strange tried to overpower Thanos with his own magical abilities during the Infinity War fight and multiples himself and it fails. Of course it is easier said than done.
Even thought Shang- Chi makes it look as if Doctor Strange should have won, there are many reasons on why that was not the outcome. In the movie Shang- Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Wong and Abomination are working together, apparently creating a scheme to put on a show for the fight club’s audiences and collecting the winnings at the end. Keeping this in mind, it is doubtful that Wong’s strategy he used against Abomination would have worked on Thanos. And maybe this was one of the 14 million possibilities which didn’t work.
