The Umbrella Academy is turning into one of the biggest hits on Netflix in 2019 after the series debuted to extreme anticipation and excitement by fans.

The series sees the adventures of seven children who are to save the world from an unknown apocalyptic threat.

The cast of Umbrella Academy features Ellen Page, Robert Sheehan, Mary J Blige, and Tom Hopper.

And all of this is based on a series that debuted in 2007, written by Gerard Way.

Gerard Way was pretty well known for other reasons too other than the writer The Umbrella Academy series. Gerard Way is 41 and he’s best known for being the frontman of the band, My Chemical Romance.

The band was together from 2001 until they split in 2013. They are best known for song like Welcome to the Black Parade, which topped the UK charts in 2006. More songs by the band include I don’t love you and Famous last words.

A solo album was also released by Gerard in 2014 titled Hesitant Alien in 2014. However, he hasn’t denied the possibility of an MCR reunion.

‘I wouldn’t count [a reunion] out, but at the same time everybody’s doing stuff in their lives now that they’re really enjoying. ‘In some ways I don’t really miss it. It had gotten so big it was very unwieldy. It took a toll on my mental life and personal life.’

Gerard Way began writing The Umbrella Academy in 2007, along with illustrating the original, but the art has since been redrawn by artist Gabriel Bay.

Gerard Way Has Written Comics Before Too

The first volume of Umbrella Academy was released by Dark Horse Comics in May, 2007. However, the comics’ first issue came out in September.

The Umbrella Academy isn’t Way’s first attempt at comics, he also began a series named On Raven’s Wings in ’93 when he was just 16. However, it only lasted for two issues.

Way was also the co-creator of The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, which can we out in 2013-14. He has also written for a Spider-Man series titled Edge of Spider-verse.
