  • The cast also includes Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Mark Ruffalo, & Toni Collette.
  • The movie is set to hit theaters on January 31, 2025—mark your calendars.

If you’ve seen Parasite (and who hasn’t?) then you know Bong Joon-ho is a master at blending different genres and making even the weirdest concepts feel deeply meaningful. Now, he’s back with a brand new project—Mickey 17.

It’s not just another space movie. Nope, this one’s crazy and super exciting, and we can’t wait to dive into everything we know so far. The movie stars Robert Pattinson (yes, Twilight’s Edward Cullen) in a role that will have him playing not one, but several versions of the same character.

Mickey is a clone—a disposable one at that—who’s sent into space to do all the dangerous things. And the twist? He’s not dead like he’s supposed to be. Instead, Mickey’s version 17 is still alive, and when a new clone (Mickey 18) arrives to replace him, the two have to figure out how to get along—without killing each other.

It’s a sci-fi thriller, but with tons of dark humor and some seriously trippy feels. The trailer alone has us counting down the days until it hits theaters in January 2025. So, what’s the scoop on this movie? Let’s break it down—from the plot to the cast and everything in between.

What is Mickey 17 About?

This movie’s set in deep space, where clones are used for dangerous missions, and once they die, they’re easily replaced. The story focuses on Mickey (played by Robert Pattinson), the 17th version of these expendable clones, who’s sent to a distant ice planet for a mission.

But here’s the twist—Mickey doesn’t die like the others. Instead of being disposed of like the others, Mickey 17 has to figure out how to share his life with his replacement—Mickey 18.

And of course, living with a copy of yourself is not easy, especially when they both want to survive and keep their secret hidden from everyone else. To make things worse, they have to face the wild challenges of an icy planet called Niflheim, with dangerous creatures and harsh conditions to survive.

The premise is straight-up insane but also ridiculously intriguing. Clones, identity crises, isolation in space—what more could you ask for? Oh, and did we mention it’s also a black comedy? Yeah, expect some dark humor mixed into all the high-stakes sci-fi action.

Mickey 17 Cast

First things first—Robert Pattinson is the lead, playing Mickey, or more accurately, multiple versions of Mickey. The actor has done it all, from The Batman to The Lighthouse, and he’s proven he can take on any role.

But this? This seems like something totally new for him. And Pattinson isn’t the only big name in this movie. Joining him is Naomi Ackie, who you might recognize from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and I Wanna Dance with Somebody.

She’s playing a mysterious role, though we don’t know the details yet. Then there’s Steven Yeun, who’s made a name for himself with MinariNope, and Beef. He’s a talented actor, and we’re excited to see what role he takes on here.

You also get Mark Ruffalo, who plays the Hulk in the MCU but has also impressed in serious roles like in Spotlight and Dark Waters. And finally, Toni Collette—if you’ve seen Hereditary or Knives Out, you know she’s an acting powerhouse.

She’s been a part of some of the most creative films out there, so seeing her team up with Bong Joon-ho is exciting. The cast is stacked, and they’re all bringing something unique to the table. So yeah, this isn’t just another generic space movie—it’s got some serious acting talent in the mix.

The Mickey 17 Trailer

It’s official: the trailer (available on Warner Bros. Pictures’ official YouTube channel) for Mickey 17 is here, and it’s everything we hoped for and more. After teasing us with a short clip in 2022, the full trailer finally dropped in September 2024, and it did not disappoint. The first thing that stands out is Robert Pattinson.

In the trailer, we get to see him play multiple versions of Mickey, each one with its own distinct personality. If you’ve ever wondered how Pattinson can bring so many different sides to a character, this movie is going to show you just how versatile he really is.

What stands out is the whole vibe of the movie—it’s equal parts space thriller, absurd comedy, and intense drama. The icy, remote planet looks too cold to handle (obviously), and the visual effects are top-tier.

Bong Joon-ho’s signature style is all over it. The film looks like it’ll play with our minds, but also have us laughing at the most unexpected moments. If this trailer is anything to go by, the movie is going to be an unforgettable experience.

In a recent interview with Evening Standard Magazine, Pattinson shared that Mickey 17 is unlike any other role he’s ever done before. The star talked about how the film’s working style was totally different, saying:

It’s with Parasite director Bong Joon-ho and it’s like nothing I’ve ever done before. The movie is so crazy, it’s a completely different style of working. … It’s so much talking.

Pattinson seems pumped about it, and knowing how dedicated he is to his craft, we’re expecting him to knock it out of the park.
