“Monumental Effects” For Years If Arno Stark Becomes Iron Man, Says Marvel’s Executive Editor
The only thing which Iron Man fans have been talking about for almost a week is the return of Arno Stark. If you are not a hard core comic book fan then chances are you might not have heard of the name. In short, he is Tony Stark’s long lost brother. But what you also might not know is that in the future vision of the Marvel Universe, that brother became Iron Man 2020. So with the year 2020 approaching, it’s time for Arno to take up the mantle.
Arno Stark As The Next Iron Man
At New York Comic Con, during their “Next Big Thing” panel, Marvel Comics officially confirmed that Tony Stark will indeed die. But the question is- will Arno honor his late brother’s legacy. But there is a bigger question within all of it. Is Tony Stark dead for good?
Dan Slott and Christos Gage’s story has been gradually building towards this. They have been making a lot of references to the 2020 storyline. Now that Tony has accepted that his wealth can’t cure him and that his true self might be long dead, the pieces for Arno taking over have finally been put into place. This became more prominent after Tony created the designs for the signature Iron Man 2020 armor a couple of months ago and Arno was seen as taking notes. But does it even rank in the list of weird armor created by Tony?
Who Is Arno Stark?
Arno Stark was first introduced back in 1984’s Machine Man #2. He was the Iron Man of 2020. Now that year is about to arrive in the real world it makes sense that Marvel will launch the Iron Man 2020 event across their universe. But will this event ultimately bring about the end of the Marvel universe? The only thing that is being promised from the Marvel camp are “monumental effects” for years to come. As for the number of tie-ins it will have- it’s still unknown to us.
Executive editor Tom Brevoort said regarding the upcoming Arno Stark as Iron Man 2020 twist that:
“Like the inexorable turning of pages on a calendar, we’ve been building up to the arrival of 2020 and the advent of Arno Stark as Iron Man ever since this latest run began. Here, all of the larger themes we’ve been playing with will come to the fore in a big, sweeping, epic action movie that anyone can enjoy!”
This six issue series will keep on exploring the differences between tech and flesh; human and AI. It will also call upon the robotic characters of the Marvel universe like Vision, Elsie-Dee and Jocasta. But with a robot revolution looming, will Tony’s digital nature start off a flesh free new era of his Marvel story? We will all just have to wait and see.
Iron Man 2020 #1 will be available at your local comic book shop starting in January of 2020.
