Some Marvel films are controversial for reasons unrelated to the plot or direction. Before Captain Marvel (2019) even came out, there was controversy around the idea of a woman directing an MCU film. The film was helmed by Anna Boden. It resulted in negative reviews, and other Marvel series like She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel were affected by it.

In 2021 Marvel brought Eternals on the big screen. The film, directed by Chloé Zhao, starred various celebrities from the entertainment world. The film followed The Eternals, a species of superhuman creatures that have been covertly residing on Earth for countless years, to get together to fight the evil Deviants. It was a standalone movie with little ties to the rest of the series. However, the film got mixed reviews from fans and didn’t perform well at the box office.

Marvel has been under the radar for a long time due to its poor film post endgame, the franchise is struggling to capture the audience’s heart like it did before. There are many films lined up for the upcoming phase, and also series returning with another season like Loki season 2. It would be interesting to see how Marvel will end its multiverse chapter.
