Fans Can’t Help But Compare My Deer Friend Nokotan To Asobi Asobase
With the release of the trailer My Deer Friend Nokotan, fans can’t help but compare the series to Asobi Asobase. Asobi Asobase is not a typical middle-school slice of life and is determined to divert from the trope of cute girls doing cute things in the anime. Seven Seas Entertainment describes the manga as follows:
No one knows Torako used to be a delinquent. All of her classmates only know her as the perfect student. But everything changes when Nokotan, a transfer student with antlers, enters her life. Antlers aren’t the only thing strange about Nokotan.
Her deer nose can sniff out Torako’s secret past! Whether it’s at school or the zoo, chaos follows this doe-eyed girl’s every step. Torako has so many questions! Is Nokotan a deer, a girl, or something in-between?
You can watch the official trailer released by It’s Anime below, which follows the story and antics of Nokotan, a transfer student with antlers.
Although fans on X are complaining about the atrocious use of AI, they can’t help but be drawn into this ridiculous, yet entertaining anime. An X user pointed out that the trailer gives off the same feeling as Asobi Asobase, and they are not wrong.

Asobi Asobase is a show about what it really is like to be a girl in middle school. Although the comic scenes are effective, the show also combines the horrors of middle school, so it would be best to categorize the anime as a comedy horror. Going by the trailer of My Deer Friend Nokotan, it radiates the same feeling as Asobi Asobase.
What is Asobi Asobase About?
As for the “plot” of Asobi Asobase, the show revolves around Olivia, who speaks native Japanese but looks foreign and claims to speak English as her first language even though she isn’t able to speak it at all.
Her first buddy and their peculiar club’s supreme ring commander is Hanako. In classic middle-school tradition, she’s also officially nuts. Although Kasumi appears to be the smartest person in the group, she is not a very good student and would much rather write BL novels while being afraid of real males.
They form the “pastime” club because of a variety of unimportant reasons. While some members of the club believe the club is about studying old men who stare at women, others believe it is about playing games and engaging in traditional pastimes.
Every episode is made up of a few brief clips showing them playing a game or pastime that goes terribly wrong because of their own lunacy, peculiarity, or brutality, depending on the situation.
