He also promised to give the universe a fresh start to compete with the MCU. The first step in Gunn’s plan to alter the world was to replace Henry Cavill as Superman. The casting for the lead part of Superman: Legacy‘s titular hero was the subject of the most speculation and discussion. Gunn recently revealed he has finally found the new Superman. 

David Corenswet is cast to play Clark Kent/Superman in Superman: Legacy. The actor reportedly won the role over the likes of Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney. Starring opposite Corenswet as Lois Lane is Golden Globe Award winner Rachel Brosnahan.

Superman: Legacy the first movie in James Gunn’s new DC Universe, will set itself apart from Man of Steel by omitting Superman’s origin story. According to Gunn, the movie follows, Corenswet’s Clark Kent/Superman struggles to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. The filming of  Superman: Legacy is expected to begin in early 2024.

Superman: Legacy is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
