This announcement follows the August 1st premiere of the upcoming Batman: Caped Crusader TV series. The ten-episode series features a dream cast and also includes visionaries like J.J. Abrams, Bruce Timm, and Matt Reeves. This series boasts Bruce Wayne changing into a vicious vigilante who terrorizes lawbreakers.
Expanding upon this darker foundation, Bat-Family aims to go deeper into the universe created in Merry Little Batman—a movie that received an incredible 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. From Camp to Cult Classic: Michael Keaton on Bringing Darkness to Batman
Michael Keaton recalls the initial reaction that comic book fans had when Tim Burton directed the 1989 movie. Until then, Batman had only appeared as a campy television figure. However, Batman would mark a before and after for the superhero movie genre. Keaton said in an interview with GQ,
When they said, ‘We’re thinking of doing Batman,’ I said, ‘Wait, you’re thinking of making a movie about Batman’? We also had a nice working relationship from Beetlejuice, so he felt that he and I could get along and would work well together”
In the 1989 movie, Keaton portrayed the title character. He later played Bruce Wayne again in Batman Returns (1992). The actor donned the Dark Knight suit once more for The Flash, the DC movie that united the multiverse, over thirty years after its first release.
