Spider-Man has always been one of the most beloved and relatable superheroes. Whether it is Tobey Maguire’s version of the character or the Shameik Moore one, the web-slinger has a strong hold on the superhero fandom and this new animated show is turning out to be no different. That said, this one is certainly a fresh take for those bored with MCU’s multiversal salad that had Tom Holland swinging from one universe to another.

While most superheroes are grown men or women who have incredible genes, a tragic backstory, and are even filthy rich sometimes (Iron Man and Batman), Spider-Man is one of those teenagers who accidentally gets these awesome powers from the bite of a radioactive spider of all things and decides that he wants to help the world become a better place.

Spidey does exactly this in Marvel’s brand-new series, but this time, his world is limited to just his neighborhood—not the entire world, at least for now. He’s just a teenager trying to navigate school while embracing his new role as a superhero, one who inherently sees the good in everyone.

A scene from the show has made its way to the internet and it is equal parts wholesome and empathetic in a way that fans have not seen in a while. It shows Spider-Man land in front of a pizza shop with someone he has tied up with his web. He knocks on the glass door of the shop to grab the owner’s attention. When the owner comes out, Spidey hands him the wad of cash that had been stolen while he was busy.

The person guilty of stealing the money breaks down in sobs as she confesses that she recently lost her job and made the mistake of stealing. Good-hearted as ever, Spidey urges the owner to forgive the lady. The lady apologizes again and the owner decides to let her go. Spidey helps the lady up and requests her to not make him regret letting her go.

Once the lady goes away, Spidey tells the owner that the lady just made a bad choice. Although the owner is not too sure about it, he offers the web crawler a pizza as a token of thanks. It is this type of light-hearted content that fans have missed considering the high-stakes scenarios they have been witnessing in the MCU for a long time now. Here is what some fans have to say:

Judging by these reactions, fans are quite impressed with what they have got so far and are going to tune in when the new episodes drop. This is certainly a huge win for Marvel as well as the fans. Maybe the studio is finally making the massive comeback everyone has been eagerly waiting for.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man writer Jeff Trammell on whether or not the show has a connection with the MCU

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man follows the origin story and early days of the eponymous superhero, but in a timeline that is different from the other movies and shows. In this timeline, his mentor is Norman Osborn instead of Iron Man. Even so, there is no lack of mainstream MCU references in the show.

One such MCU Easter egg-laden scene references a specific scene in Loki Season 2. When CBR asked writer Jeff Trammell about it, he said:

We can reference all these other things, and as we’re going through production, there’s a lot of fun pulling all these references. But I won’t say no. I won’t say that we are like this. There’s a theory going on that in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, they pop over into our universe. And who’s to say if that’s true or not?

He further said that as a fan and creator of this superhero universe, speculating about such things is one of the best aspects of this show. He is welcoming all that speculation with open arms. So, it will be fun to see how things play out in the long run.
