With changing times, society is surely getting more open and accepting but at the same time, the incessant cancel culture has proved to be an impediment in the way of creative geniuses. From Todd Phillips who felt comedy was dying to now Michael Keaton claiming that his upcoming sequel had to be scaled down, the prevalent cancel culture has robbed fans of some great works.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is the sequel to one of the most classic horror flicks of Hollywood, releasing after almost three decades. Directed by Tim Burton, the movie adopts a very eccentric comedic style.

Tim Burton had been waiting for that bright idea to continue the thrilling story of Beetlejuice, the eccentric ghost haunting a house and its family. When he finally did get the script right, most of the original cast was ready to reprise their roles, with new faces also coming on board.

Fans and even Burton himself perhaps agree that Michael Keaton is the perfect actor to bring Beetlejuice’s character to life on screen. Nobody can do it better than him. Thankfully, he too came on board for the sequel. However, in a quest to be politically correct, Keaton expressed how certain big swings were let go. In an interview with Collider, he shared,

I’m sure there was a lot of that in the first one, in fact, it was like one gigantic big swing there were less so now because we knew we could get away with more it’s weird we had to be a tiny tiny tiny bit more politically correct but we even didn’t even think about that too much we just a couple times we went yeah maybe not you know and then we went right up to it.

Much like other storytellers and filmmakers previously claimed, the cancel culture sometimes gets too out of hand at the cost of good stories and works of art. People have to be extra careful as they tiptoe around topics and themes so as not to offend anyone’s feelings. While this is great in the larger scheme of things, the culture that nitpicks every tiny detail can hamper the creative process massively.

36 years after the first movie was released, the cast and crew are finally uniting for a sequel that shows us where the Beetlejuice characters ended up. Played by Jenna Ortega, Astrid is a new addition to the cast of the sequel.

The Deetz family makes its way back to the Winter Home after a tragedy, possibly a death since the trailer shows the cast in black, as if at a funeral. Amidst the sadness and the tension, things go south as Astrid finds Beetlejuice and the ghost continues to spread his menace.
