There is no lack of theories when it comes to One Piece. Decades of serialization of the manga series have spawned incredible fan theories; some of which even came true. As the story enters its final arc, fans are clamoring to learn the well-kept secrets that Eiichiro Oda has enmeshed into the story. For one, there is the unresolved mystery of the One Piece and second, the looming presence of Imu.

Among this, a fan came up with a wild theory regarding the mysterious presence of Imu and their probable relationship with Joyboy. The theory can potentially change everything we know about One Piece so far. While there have been various theories regarding the identity of Imu, this one certainly takes the cake.
A Reddit Theory Suggests That Imu Is The Bride Of Joyboy

A Reddit post by GhettoSoulChild suggests that Imu is the bride of Joyboy through an arranged marriage. The theory explains that arranged marriages were extremely common among royal families and other families with very high social status. To forge a more powerful kingdom or alliance with other countries was one of the numerous justifications for this.
Imu, The Bride of JoyBoy (Theory)

Most of the time, the two people getting married don’t feel the same way about each other. Their different kingdoms are the only reason they follow through with it. Failing to do so can lead to conflict between the two participating kingdoms. Sometimes, the two people getting married don’t even meet before the wedding day.
The theory is completely based on Imu’s silhouette, which bears a close resemblance to a bride in a wedding gown with what seems to be a dress that flows down and behind her as she walks, something that looks like a veil that drapes over her face, and a very tall crown.
Due to the enormous throne and the tall crown, it could very well be that Imu is the bride of Joyboy through an arranged marriage. And because the wedding never happened, she took the throne that was supposed to be hers if she and Joyboy got married.
Imu seems to carry the presence of a bride in her wedding dress before the wedding ceremony. She is not seen by a man, not even the Gorosei. They bend their knees and bow their head as they speak to Imu. The only person who could hold their head up and stand while speaking to Imu was the woman who came to inform Imu about the arrival of the Gorosei.
Moreover, Imu seems to only frequent inside the Chamber of Flowers, which could be where the Bride would wait until the wedding starts. The veil represents modesty and obedience and in some cultures, the veil that covers the bride’s face is used to ward off evil from draining the bride’s happiness. The theory further suggests that Imu will reveal her identity once she meets JoyBoy, and then their “wedding” will finally commence.
Instagram Reel Suggests That Luffy, Bonney, and Franky Travel Back In Time

Another theory from Instagram user @animecreators2024 talked about leaked information from another user, whose account was deleted after the “leak”. According to the leaked information, Franky will consume Kuma’s Devil Fruit, leading to his death. The Devil Fruit powers of Luffy, Bonnie, and Franky can be used to travel 900 years in the past.
Luffy will go back in time and meet Joyboy from before, whose name is Dryas, the prince of the ancient kingdom. The theory also suggests that Dryas is Imu’s younger brother but there was a conflict because Imu didn’t want Dryas to become the king. As a result, Imu conspired with 20 kings (potential Tenryuubito) to destroy the large ancient kingdom and turn it into many small islands.
If this leak does come true, it would make the previous theory that Imu is Joyboy’s bride redundant. Now it’s only a matter of waiting and figuring out whether either of the theories is true or not.
Frequently asked questions
Is the theory that Imu is Joyboy’s bride confirmed in One Piece?
No. It is an unconfirmed fan theory, attributed in the article to a Reddit post by user GhettoSoulChild. The idea rests entirely on reading Imu’s silhouette as a bride in a wedding gown, with a flowing dress, a face-covering veil, and a very tall crown. Eiichiro Oda has not revealed Imu’s identity or any link to Joyboy in the manga, so this is pure speculation, not canon.
What is the alternative theory the article raises about Imu and Joyboy’s connection?
The article points to a separate Instagram ‘leak’ it flags as unverified (sourced from an account that was reportedly deleted). That claim says Joyboy’s real name is Dryas, the prince of the ancient kingdom, and that Dryas is Imu’s younger brother rather than a spouse, with Imu having conspired against him. The article notes that if this sibling leak were true, it would make the bride theory redundant. Neither claim is confirmed by the manga.
Who are Imu and Joyboy in One Piece?
Imu is the secretive figure seated above the Five Elders (Gorosei) at the top of the World Government, whose face and identity Oda has deliberately kept hidden. Joyboy is a figure from the Void Century roughly 800 to 900 years ago, tied to the ancient kingdom and to One Piece’s deepest mysteries. Any direct connection between the two has not been revealed in the manga and remains the subject of fan theories like the ones in this article.
