One Piece: What Marco Has Said About Blackbeard isn’t an Anomaly in the Series But it Fairly Explains Why He Can Use 2 Devil Fruits
Blackbeard, also referred to as Marshall D. Teach, is one of the main antagonists in the series. Although Blackbeard’s devil fruits are regarded as some of the strongest in One Piece, there is still much to discover about their capabilities.
Haki, along with Devil Fruit, is one of the primary sources of power in the One Piece universe. The power of a devil fruit can be readily obtained by eating it, but haki requires rigorous training. Every devil fruit has a different set of abilities, and a person can only eat one in their lifetime.
A human being would perish immediately if they consumed two of them. But Blackbeard is the only character who possesses the abilities of two devil fruits, for reasons that are unclear. The devil fruits of Blackbeard are of the Logia and Paramecia types, and they are potent enough to wipe out entire islands.
How Does Blackbeard Possess Two Devil Fruits?
So far, there has been no explanation for how he obtained two Devil Fruits or how he took Whitebeard’s Devil Fruit. It won’t work if you just eat them, but here are some possibilities as to why he can hold the power of two Devil Fruits.
- Yami Yami no Mi’s unique capabilities: The fruit’s unique ability to neutralize other Devil Fruit capabilities is one of its exceptional traits. Thus, perhaps it avoids the deadly effects of eating the second fruit.
- Unique Body Structure: The manga/anime makes a hint to the concept when Marco says that Blackbeard’s body isn’t like other people’s. Another possible explanation is that Blackbeard’s body is composed entirely of darkness, giving him a limitless amount of space.
- Inherited Will or D. Clan Legacy: Several of the show’s main characters, such as both Monkey D. Luffy and Blackbeard’s names begin with the letter D. Though the question still stands, it’s possible that people with the initials possess unique abilities, such as the ability to wield two devil fruits.
Marco Might Know The Secret Of Blackbeard’s Body
When Marco said that Blackbeard’s body is different from others, he didn’t mean to imply that Blackbeard’s body is an anomaly. There are characters with more bizarre and unique body types in the One Piece world. What Marco might be suggesting is that his Yami Yami no Mi Devil Fruit creates infinite space in his body, which allows two devil fruits to coexist in Blackbeards’s body.
This theory suggests that Blackbeard’s unique constitution is not acquired, but inherent. It wouldn’t be excessive to say that a Whitebeard’s right hand could become a physician. After all, Trafalgar Law is a doctor in the universe of One Piece in addition to being a pirate captain.
Hence, there would be a strong connection with one of the other lines concerning Marco—what he knew about Blackbeard’s body—if we assume that Marco not only became a doctor after Whitebeard’s death but had also been a doctor before Whitebeard’s death. Marco said that Blackbeard’s body was peculiar, which would account for his ability to use two Devil Fruits simultaneously.
As a physician, Marco was able to examine Blackbeard while he was a member of Whitebeard’s team and possibly tend to him following an injury (possibly from his fight with Shanks). Given this chance and his medical background, Marco may be able to learn anything about Blackbeard’s peculiar anatomy that enables him to consume two distinct devil fruits.
