Sony might or might not have to let go of its web-slinging superhero Spider-Man after the lackluster performance of Kraven the Hunter, but it is definitely welcoming the massive slithering beast anaconda next year. The movie will be starring Paul Rudd and Jack Black, both of whom have great comic timing and dramatic chops.
After the giant snakes first appeared in the movie Anaconda almost three decades ago, several sequels were made. Like a lot of other movies that have been rebooted recently including the DC franchise, this one is also getting a reboot and its release date has also been announced recently.

Released in 1997, Anaconda is a horror film starring Jennifer Lopez, Jon Voight, Ice Cube, and Eric Stoltz, among others. It follows a National Geographic film crew that an insane hunter takes hostage. The hunter forces them to help him on his quest to find the largest and deadliest snake in the world – an anaconda.
The movie earned critical appreciation and grossed $136.8 million (via Box Office Mojo). Directed by Lois Llosa, it spawned a theatrical sequel and three TV sequels. Now, the film is being rebooted and will star Paul Rudd and Jack Black in leading roles.
In a new video released by Sony Pictures Entertainment, Black and Rudd tease the new project. The Kung Fu Panda star says of the film: “There’s gonna be a big f*cking snake, and it’s gonna rip.” The Marvel star then proceeds to add:
You want to get scared? You want to laugh? You want to celebrate with your friends? Or maybe you’re alone and sad and have nobody, but just want to forget about that?
The release date of the film is announced to be Christmas Day next year. So, hopefully, it will be a celebration with friends. If that does not turn out to be the case, at least there will be a massive and deadly snake to keep us company.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming movie will feature a group of friends who decide to go to a rainforest to deal with their midlife crises. They go to the rainforest to recreate their favorite movie from growing up. However, things take an ugly turn when they are faced with natural disasters, violent criminals, and most importantly, anacondas.
Tom Gormican, who directed The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, is directing Anaconda from a script he co-wrote with Kevin Etten. Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing through their Fully Formed banner. Other movies releasing on December 25, 2025, are Sydney Sweeney’s The Housemaid and Timothée Chalamet’s Marty Supreme.
