Rachel Zegler Beats Keanu Reeves, Tom Cruise, Jason Momoa for Action Movie Star of the Year People’s Choice Award
The award season of 2024 is in full swing with one after the other ceremony commemorating some of the best talents in the film and TV industry. The masses bestowed the latest honor in the People’s Choice Awards where some deserved celebrities snagged the big categories whereas a few new faces were celebrated. From movie stars to TV celebrities and music sensations, various categories won big last night at the ceremony.
Rachel Zegler Wins Action Movie Star of the Year
Fans have voted over the past few weeks to select their favorite in categories in every genre and format. In an unexpected turn, Rachel Zegler was awarded the Action Movie Star of the Year by People’s Choice Awards. She beat familiar faces in action including Tom Cruise, Jason Momoa, Keanu Reeves, Gal Gadot, and even Chris Pratt.
While all these celebrities known for their action moves were nominated, Zegler won the award for her role in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. She accepted the award gracefully and expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the cast, crew, and her family while reiterating her love for the craft. Zegler said in her speech,
“Thank you. I love movies, I love making them, and I am a fan of movies, and I am surrounded by movie fans tonight, and movie fans who voted, and I am so thankful to everyone who’s ever bought a ticket and watched something that so many people have made. For so long in this business, I didn’t think I fit in, but tonight, you made me feel like I don’t have to change myself to be chosen, and I appreciate you so much.”
Not only that, Zegler had a big night with another nomination in the category Female Movie Star of the Year. The peers who were also nominated included Viola Davis, Halle Bailey, Jennifer Lawrence, Jenna Ortega, and Julia Roberts. The Barbie of 2023 Margot Robbie won the award for her exceptional performance and for taking the entire world by storm with incredible marketing and buzz for the movie.
Other Winners at People’s Choice Awards
Across the 45 categories of awards, many won the trophy while others had to settle for the nomination. The People’s Choice Awards claim just how popular a project or celebrity has been since people vote for their picks and crown the winner. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes won the action movie of the year. Popular TV shows that impressed every viewer Only Murders in the Building and The Last of Us won two awards each in the comedy and drama categories respectively.
On the other hand, Adam Sandler received the Icon of the Year award for his charming on-screen performances. While accepting the award, he acted like he was winning the Sexiest Man Alive award and made the audience laugh with his hilarious speech. Taylor Swift had an extremely special night with three more awards to adorn her shelf including Best Female Artist, Pop Artist, Concert Tour, and Social Celebrity. She also celebrated the win with her beau Travis Kelce who won the Athlete of the Year award.
